New Mexico has become the first state in the country to guarantee universal child care to families residing in the state.

New Mexico families will be eligible for free child care for infants and toddlers starting Nov. 1, no matter their incomes. The groundbreaking initiative will require no co-pays from families.

The typical New Mexico family is expected to save over $12,000 per child annually with the initiative.

This is awesome. Hope it serves as a (positive) test case for other states to follow suit!

I give it two years before it fails miserably...

Where will all these children be kept daily?

What training will these workers have ?

How many kids per worker and will exceptions be made since it is gov't run ?

What is the pay for the employees ?
They better be paying at least $17 per hour. What is the livable wage these days?

How many times is socialism going to have to fail before you people realize it's nothing more than a pie in the sky pipe dream?
The average NM will save over $12,000 per kid in child care. Sure they will. As if that money won't immediately go directly to taxes, etc. to pay for this "free" government program

So who's going to pay for it? There is no such as free. So the tax payers, even those without children are going to pay for this with their taxes? No thank you. What is it with socialists? And I'm sure the quality is going to be awesome.

Why is this awesome? Now you're going to have to pay higher taxes and still send your kid to private child care because the quality of the state run system will be subpar to say the least.

But hey, at least moms can work longer hours in the widget factory to make money to pay for child care.

This is a terrible idea. The entire premise of our way of life is that you have to learn to provide for yourself and your family at some point. The American experiment has succeeded because the freedom to forge our own paths has led us to be the most innovative people to ever lay foot on Earth.

This is just one more government teet for the worthless masses to suckle on while they remain functionally incapable of establishing themselves as adults and net positive for the country.

Ah yes, taxpaying citizens work their ass of and then get the pleasure of their tax dollars paying for other lazy ass adults' crotch fruit's healthcare. Now the care they actually pay for, for themselves, will be lower quality. Long live socialism. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

They are farther along the glide slope to communism than the US. That is not something to emulate. More socialism is never the answer.

New Mexico also has announced the building and construction of camps where they plan to keep the "free child care" children during the day.

Will the state run these child care facilities? Or is this a voucher program?

I bet a voucher program would work great in primary education in Texas. Don't you think?

I think we all expected communism to finally be done correctly in Nuevo Mexico.

Good for them! (And, prayers for the kids involved.).

Like every leftist cause, it's conceptually a winner: at a time where two incomes are req'd to make ends meet, this would be a way to incentivize Americans to have more babies instead of importing foriegners.

But come tf on people...is there a single example of an American government agency that has a track record of success at anything like this? This is about as dumb as giving the public education establishment more money expecting rising test scores as a result.

Didn't you read OP's post? It's free so nobody has to pay for it. I guess the workers there will work for free and the facilities will not have to pay rent or utilities and the food they serve will I guess just be grown from the playground. Free is free which means nobody has to pay anything because it taxes are used to fund it then it is NOT free because somebody is paying for it.

1. It's about choice. Right now, a lot of families, especially mothers, don't have the option to stay in the workforce because childcare is so expensive.

2. The higher workforce participation doesn't just benefit "the widget factory", it grows the economy, raises tax revenues, and strengthens social programs.

3. Wouldn't this be the type of investment conservatives want our tax dollars to go to? Encouraging the natural born expansion of the American family unit while providing maximum economic participation.
