When I eventually make my way to New York, the State, I will not be going to NYC. Niagara Falls and Cooperstown are on the list, but NYC is not. I've seen it plenty in movies, TV shows, and even going so far as to include 9/11 footage.

The wife and I went in June for the first time. It was also our last time. Outside of flying in and out of Newark we spent the whole week in Manhattan. We had a good time but it's a one and done. And truthfully, it's so expensive we could have spent a week in Europe for about the same cost.

I did get my picture taken in front of the building they filmed the Ghostbusters HQ in. That was actually on my list.

Good luck NYC!

I know it might be an unpopular opinion, but I love the city and wish the people would understand and realize the potential. I think part of America being at its best is having a vibrant and strong NYC. In my lifetime, it was the turnaround under Gulliani....NYC was roaring back and while it was still a democrat stronghold, it served as a great catalyst for the nation as a whole.

It's heartbreaking that Mamdani is going to win. I agree in the sense that this is what the electorate is voting for, so let it fail miserably. It's actually quite important that it fails spectacularly so that other cities/states don't follow suit.

Everyone agrees with this. No one wants a weak, impotent NY. Giuliani's NY is the gold standard of what it can be. Mamdani is the literal opposite.

You guys are going to be pretty disappointed by Mamdani.

All the commie stuff he'd like to do is beyond the power of the mayor and would require Albany to approve. He's probably going to be a boring leader.

Unfortunately, sometimes people have to learn the hard way. Let NYC voters get what they want and learn the real outcomes of socialism. It isn't going to be the Utopia they have been promised. In the end, they will have wasted a decade - if they are lucky - and the standard of living will be far worse than it is today.

Maybe it will serve as a warning beacon to the rational people across the rest of this country.

Yeah, thankfully the governor of New York is a strict libertarian...right?

I still think Albany will keep it from getting to be Havana on the Hudson there, but I hope it does cause a huge withdrawal of money, jobs, police, and other non leftist capital. Same thing with LA, SF, Denver, Seattle, and Portland have seen in the West...anyone not towing the leftist's line just move away.

Let it burn to the ground. Just dont ask the rest of the states to bail it out.

Why just bussing, shouldn't the subway be free also?

Of course. Everything is free in Marxist land! There is no private property and everyone works for the good of the collective! /bolsheviks

The only thing I've heard him talk about is free bussing.

Watching Mamdani repeatedly say that "crime is not a problem" while countless videos showing otherwise are shared will be entertaining. But I get your point. This is the early point in a socialist takeover where the voters are only thinking of the free stuff & racial justice they're going to get. The empty shelves and crime ridden reality will come in a year or two.

They could make it less boring and helicopter him over the Hudson. And then pick a real human to lead the city.

No it's not. He can eliminate rent increases for rent-stabilized apartments, which he will do. There is a million of those units in the city! Landlords are totally screwed!

Let's revisit this thread in a few years and see.

How is Islam in compatible with Communism?

Other than there being a god and religious backing behind the authoritarianism, I've always believed them to be quite compatible in execution..

the city-run grocery stores will be a great commie experiment. no more worrying about "big food" and "price gouging". the rent freezes will be great to see what happens too. soft on crime seems to be working swimmingly already, but let's upgrade that. ...let's see how much of their tax base exits the city.. let's see how many cops retire or leave.

I saw that it is not just rent freeze

there is a new 2027 law which mandates all these apartments be upgraded for "green energy"

now guess who gets to pay for all those renovations?!

Hidalgo is a lefty but is also dumb and incompetent. I think this guy is much more of a wolf in sheep's clothing, or actually just a wolf in wolf's clothing. I think he is smart and aggressive enough to do major harm if elected, which it sounds like he will be.

My guess is that if this commie gets elected he doesn't make it through his full term. There is a lot of noise from the business community that he's a bridge too far. If you see a real flight of capital from NYC, you'll basically have a bankrupt city no matter what insane leftist actions this guy takes. Which means fewer NYPD on the streets, more crime, more national headlines and the governor will have to remove him. Not sure what charges they'll bring up, absolutely convinced they'll find some.

The last 2 times I was in NYC, I don't think I ever met a New Yorker.

Literally every person I encountered was Eastern European, Caribbean, middle eastern, south Asian, SE Asian, or African.

When your entire population is from socialist countries, it's not a stretch to see them go all in on Marxism.
