Americans are so unbelievably and pathetically stupid. In large part, just the dumbest group of people on the face of the planet. We have EVERYTHING in the world and these idiots are about to throw it all away over some snake oil communist loser.

This loser Mamdani was a nobody! He's never done a single admirable thing in his life! Never led anything, never worked a real job, never managed payroll, hired and fired staff, literally nothing! But because he knows all of the buzzwords and has a salesman's smile, the NYC electorate has concluded "yep, NOW THAT is the guy we need leading us right now!"

Male net taxpayers should be the only ones allowed to vote. For the same reason families don't let their kids make financial decisions. They are too stupid and idiotic to operate like an adult. As is the same for most of our voters. Just so unbelievably stupid.

funny, the exact same thing applies to Obama....

Please Jesus, we can not survive another Obama

the city-run grocery stores will be a great commie experiment. no more worrying about "big food" and "price gouging". the rent freezes will be great to see what happens too. soft on crime seems to be working swimmingly already, but let's upgrade that. ...let's see how much of their tax base exits the city.. let's see how many cops retire or leave.

I saw that it is not just rent freeze

there is a new 2027 law which mandates all these apartments be upgraded for "green energy"

now guess who gets to pay for all those renovations?!

when all the police and firefighters leave, those buildings will burn down on their own, problem fixed.

or go ahead and install solar panels on top of the buildings, let's see how many units will have enough power to run HVAC, refrigerators, etc....I'll bring the popcorn, pre-popped from the privately run grocery stores in Jersey

He's 80% odds to win in the prediction markets. A full blown communist will run NYC. SMH.

All big cities are cesspools. Decent people tend to leave them and leaving a larger and larger percentage of the population to be the underbelly. Democrats control them. And you will increasingly wind up with muslim mayors, socialist mayors, communist mayors, etc.

If his policies are put in place, I think they will have trouble being successful.

However, what does 9/11 have to do with him just b/c he is Muslim? That is just dumb on your part.

Frankly, NYC deserves it. If you're a right winger and still live in NYC, now's your last chance to leave because things have the potential to get really, really bad.

That said, NYC is a leviathan that can exist in spite of itself and its idiotic politics. There's simply too much money, power and influence centered there to where who the mayor is wont make any kind of real tangible difference to the movers and shakers.

The big question mark is public safety which is already fraying. With the United CEO shooting, random lady set on fire on the subway… I could see this being the issue which actually chases the rich and powerful away.

This ain't Austin we're talking about.

Ag9701 - have you heard Mandani's and his parents comments regarding Sept. 11? They have never condemned the attacks. Mandani is an islamist communist.

Glad I had a chance to live in NYC when I did. I'd never move back there with where it's headed

The thing is, IMO, that the "world's financial epicenter" being NYC means nothing now and hasn't for years. It's global, it's digital, it's online. The NYSE really means nothing anymore in terms of physical location. And shouldn't. Everything in that sector is virtual. Capital no longer needs a city.

NYC's future is/was real estate, entertainment/glitz, tourism, and history. Let it all burn down. Times change. The south/Texas and some mountain states are the bright future of this country, if we even have one that much longer.

let NYC burn. Who cares.

I get the sentiment but this is bad not only for NYC but for the country. For the biggest city and leading financial center of the world to elect a socialist muslim is terrible news.

You guys are going to be pretty disappointed by Mamdani.

All the commie stuff he'd like to do is beyond the power of the mayor and would require Albany to approve. He's probably going to be a boring leader.

No it's not. He can eliminate rent increases for rent-stabilized apartments, which he will do. There is a million of those units in the city! Landlords are totally screwed!

Let's revisit this thread in a few years and see.

No, he can't. Rent increases for rent stabilized apartments are determined by the Rent Guidelines Board (RBG). The mayor appoints these 9 individuals, but they have staggered terms. He won't "get control" of the board for quite some time, and even then he would have to convince the members to go along with his rent freeze. The mayor also can't increase the city's income tax without approval from Albany. And the Governor has already said that is a non-starter.

I still expect the city to become a real craphole over the next few years. But NYC already survived one socialist mayor (De Blasio), and they can probably survive another.

Silver lining. This will put the final nail in Cuomo's political coffin.

In less than 25 years from 9/11, they are likely to go from America's Mayor to a Muslim Communist.

Unless the Lord prevents it, this is coming for the entire country. The demographics simply will make it so.

This right here. Heck, just look around Cedar Park, Leander, Frisco, Katy, etc.
