I agree with the rounding up of people that shouldn't be here, but if they are under construction, there is a lot of layers to unravel. It would be different if Hyundai directly hired people they knew were illegal.

A different article I saw indicated the large majority of the illegals rounded up were S Korean illegals. That isn't the demographic we typically think of for illegals doing construction. If true that gets everyone looking at lot closer at Hyundai, their GC, and the subs. Wouldn't surprise me they brought their own GC an subs over.

That was the sme with the articles I saw, the majority were S.Koreans. That is why I am calling complete BS that they didn't know they were illegal!!

open up a manufacturing plant in the US
get big tax breaks from the state and local governments,
and then import most of the workers from your own country.

Yes, I will agree that many Builders in Houston did use trades that were illegals, but the problems to which you refer are incompetent and lazy Superintendents on the project...probably couldn't spell the word "punchlist", or "checkout".

And if those Superintendents were Aggies, Prof. Segner would have strangled them, had he learned of their lazy-ass performance...

Competence of trades is based on color. Primarily brown is best, followed by yellow for flooring and HVAV particularly, then whitey, then Black.

This is based on years of observation and not prejudice.

It's a combination of culture, family structure, history, opportunities (including education).

Depends on where you are. My grandfather-in-law built a house around this time but lived in the RGV. Said the workers came across the border in the morning, worked, and then drove back home across the border in the evening. Now, is that an illegal immigrant - maybe not. But, where a worker sleeps but still works here undocumented is somewhat semantics.

They are simply doing the battery plant construction work that Americans don't want to do.

Lots of legal "guest worker" programs in the 50s and 60s.

My dad employed braceros to hoe and pick cotton, and my (future) Aggie roommate's dad (then a teacher at Eagle Pass) drove school buses from the Valley to the Panhandle with the workers.
