I served overseas in combat arms. I love the Amercian flag and what it stands for.

But, I have no problems with F'n idiots doing idiot things. Even if this is an attempt to get a new SC ruling, I hate increasing polarization and the inevitable tit for tat to come.

If you believe in liberty and freedom, you accept something even as disgusting as flag burning. It does not directly harm or infringe upon the liberties of other people, no matter how much it pisses us off.

I agree. It rips all Americans, especially those that have died in service of the flag, to see it burned, but Americans have the right to be complete (useful) idiots. It will serve no one to ban burning the stars and stripes.

There is no crime against hate.

There are enhanced penalties for committing a crime due to hate.

I dislike hate crime BS, but there is a distinction.

You know how I know this is a free country? Because you're allowed to do crappy stuff like this. When I see those neo nazi groups walking around...yes, all 5 of them...then I'm like, "ugh....what dips***s....guess this still is a free country".

Maybe a better Federal approach would be to incentivize States to lower penalties for their citizens who hand out ass whippings to those desecrating the flag.

People are being arrested and charged with hate crimes for burning pride flags that don't belong to them and leaving skid market on rainbow crosswalks that are public property. You can argue whether municipalities should be painting rainbows in crosswalks. But it's their property. You mess it up, you're going to pay.

Buy and burn all the LGBTQLMNOP flags you want. Burn someone's flag that doesn't belong to you, now we have a problem.

These sort of moves by Trump are genius. He knows it won't stand up legally, but it's another way to differentiate the Republican party and the MAGA movement specifically from the Democrats. And something like this will get massive national attention.

He's forcing them to publicly come out and say they support the people that burn American flags.

Have no idea what the skid marks one is referencing, but all of those cases were burning someone else's flag. Which is theft and destroying property, and would still be illegal if you did it with an American flag. Want to burn your own pride flag? Go for it.

He's trying to be clever about it, claiming it's only going to be 'banned' when it 'incites a riot' but logically there's no connection between burning an item and a riot ensuing.

3 things.

1. This is a narrow interpterion. It applies to inciting violent with your burning of the flag during a riot or other violent nature.
2. Why is it OK to burn an American Flag but not other flags. ex. above this post with LGBTASEDGFOANSDFKNWA flag?
3. Trump is getting the left to AGAIN show they are anti-American by saying the burning of our country flag is a good thing.

I also feel people should have respect for the flag of the greatest country in the world. And not demean it or what it stands for.

The thread title is misleading. Trump is not looking to ban flag burning but to punish those who do while inciting a riot.
