It's coming up in September. Gotta have 218 for quorum. They only have 219 Rs right now and no way Massie is going to support it.

Cue the MTG hate.

Wait.

Don't we have the big beautiful bill that sets the new budget and raises the debt ceiling by eleventy trillion dollars.

What would they need a CR for? I guess a different type of appropriations?

I wish I understood this crap.

You do understand it.

It's just hard to believe.

Burn it all down. Johnson is a liar and is the worst.

They're all liars.

Anything in DC that has the word "continuing" in it is probably a bad idea and needs to be stopped.

Every time these come up the moderates tell the conservatives

Wait til the next one and we will give you some spending concessions.

That "next one " was like 20 yrs ago and still no concessions

So does MTG!

All you need to know is, if the CR doesn't pass, the government shuts down.

The OBBB was actually last years budget because no budget was passed last year and the Govt has been running on CR's since last October

The Spendinng in the OBBB is for the current year and the next fiscal year starts on October 1. If they were going operate the government through the statutory appropriations process all of the spending bills would need to be completed by October 1

Not sure if a simple majority in the senate can pass a spending bill The Rs definitely have a majority in the house otherwise it would be Speaker Jeffries

They can't. This isn't the '80s anymore. There is absolutely zero middle ground between the two parties.

It does set the spend budget on mandatory spending, but it must be funded every year. Gov funding is set to end in September of this year. These CRs are a type of appropriation measure with no changes to the text (usually) of any law. They fund the legislation, existing or modified by the BBB. All discretionary spending (not touched by the BBB) is funded in the CR, along with mandatory spending in its current state post-BBB. All mandatory spending legislation specified after September in the BBB, or existing, must be funded by the Congress.

They said after the BBB they would focus on the debt problem.

So focus on the debt problem.

They'd have to shut down to force Senate Dems to go along with any cuts. Even if they did that, would the Dems cry uncle or hold out?! No guarantee.

The only shot at net spending reduction was during reconciliation, which is over.

Yes, sadly when it comes to spending they are both just differing degrees of liberal, with the exception of a few holdouts on the right who actually care about reducing spending.

I think it is budget bill and not subject to the 60 vote threshold that being said Johnson might not have the votes in the house for individual department budgets bills or A CR

He'd probably vote no on his own bill if Trump said he liked it.

lol. Don't you understand that the RINOs get to have leverage and decide what they will do and the conservatives get vilified by Trump and Johnson instead of the other way around. I mean God forbid we start with conservative legislation and put immense pressure on the RINO's to get onboard or be primaried and thrown off committees. We only do that to folks that care about fiscal sanity and want to follow the Constitution.

When you realize the reason they hate Massie is he can't be bought off a lot more makes sense.
