What exactly were we supposed to do? Return the money that the Fed put in our bank accounts unsolicited to the treasury?

Great points.

several years ago during COVID I was working from home in Germantown, MD and it was snowing around Thanksgiving time and there was suddenly like a mile long line of cars on the street in front...

which NEVER happens in a residential neighborhood

only later did I find out there was a Salvation Army facility near the police station and they were all lined up for free turkeys.

with large pickup trucks and minivans

If the government sent out $1000 checks to everyone, not a single one of us would turn it down -- need or no.

Your dad would let his kids go hungry before asking for help? That's not the brag you think it is.

Yet it got over 100 blue stars.

Calling govt welfare "charity " is a generous characterization.

More like bribing people for votes or for civil obedience

Social programs are not charity, it's theft going from the productive tax payers to the unproductive rent seekers. Charity is charity, and not for the tax benefits either.

As Americans what we consider rich and poor is seriously skewed. The top 1% income in the world is $70k and top 10% is $30k(per grok). If you live in America and think you're poor and a victim of bad circumstances, go visit the street kids in Nairobi where half a dozen of them will live in a structure the size of a dog house and most of them will get high on glue to alleviate hunger. Our "poor" would be considered kings in half of the world. The US is so wealthy that we can carry 40% of the population as freeloaders, that doesn't make it morally right to do so on taxpayer dime.

I worked every single work day of covid. And ran a Salvation Army unit in my "free time."

All of this USAID corruption should drive the point home, but people want to continue to be obtuse. Giving money to the government, so they take half or more for their own self-serving purposes is not charity in any way.

They have not just been stealing it, they have been actively using our money against us.

I am also against income taxes. The fed takes from me a helluva a lot more than I got back from Covid. Trust me.
