Mass job loss is his prediction and it's already happening. Learn to be a plumber is his advice.

Lots of other good information.

Another good piece of advice he gave: spend time with your kids when they are little. I also regret not doing this. Most men get too caught up in their work and careers. You only get one bite at the apple.

Think of it this way.

The math and rules and logic to figure out AI is very very complex and is advancing faster every week.

Is the math, logic and rule making for your indusrty more or less complex than figuring out the math, logic, and rule making for creating and building an AI?

We're all ****ed.

So, curious what this looks like

60% unemployment, nobody working, nobody earning, mass starvation, nobody with the means to buy all the sh/t AI is making

And don't even say UBI. That is an absolutely nonsensical pipe dream. Handing out trillions of dollars with no reciprocal production of goods and services results in Monopoly money. It's worth nothing. COVID handouts would be NOTHING compared to permanently handing money out to billions of people that are producing nothing

One of 2 things will happen

1. Adaptation and equilibrium, as with past automation

2. Total collapse, and massive die-off

We'll see what happens

What a time to be alive

AI is going to be part of the end of society as we know it. Whether you can see it or not yet doesn't really matter we will all feel the impact in 10 to 20 years.

Seriously, AI has been a part of your life for 40 years.

You know how those toll rates change based on traffic? ai.

Fares change based on your flight searches and tickets purchased… AI.

Weather forecasts for the last 30 years, AI.

Why people think this is new is truly astonishing.

I am an indie author, trying to get a career off the ground. I'm pretty sure that what I do will morph into something different in just a few years. Already I know big time authors who write a skeleton of a story and run it through multiple prompts on chat to pump up the text. Make it more descriptive, more emotional, have more sensory elements.

The content grows from maybe 200 pages to over 300. It becomes too dense for me but this guy has thousands reading the stuff and his ratings have not suffered.

Anyway, my point is that reading two of this guys books made me really look at my use of AI in my publishing. The fact that audio books and translations and not long after full length films will be able to be generated from a book will bring my English language content to everyone.

When I look at it that way vs the AI will replace me as an author, I get excited.

Suggest you never ask a progressive liberal this. And certainly not a climate change activist.

It's like the nukes. It's a horrible thing to pursue but if we don't, other countries like China will get a competitive edge.

Unlike nukes though, China will not hesitate to use it to their advantage against us.

Theres good change, and there's 'let's fundamentally change America' change.

Everyone know Harold Finch is the father of AI.

All kidding aside, AI is growing exponentially, which requires a very different thinking for us humans.

Dramatic change is coming.

The first wave of change in Jillian evolution was going from hunter/gatherer to farmer.

The second wave was going from farming to industrialization.

The third wave was the digital revolution, going from industrialization to the internet.

I used to think material sciences would be the fourth wave. But. Ow I realize AI is the actual fourth wave.

Each of the first three waves changed our entire human existence. AI will be just as dramatic a change as those first three waves changed

Wrong. All those examples you gave use algorithms created by people.

Don't be confused between what we used to claim was AI, but was really just a glorified if-then-else statement, vs what we have now, which is increasingly NOT writen by people and is a ginormous neural network.

Not one of those things is AI. It's a stretch to call the toll and ticket prices even machine learning. For a Joe Biden "my IQ is higher than yours!" you don't seem to understand what AI is or how it works

Edit: I somehow missed the claim that you were building AI on the 64 KB, 1 mHz Apple IIe. I guess you must have swapped out 5 1/4" floppy disks each time it made a decision

We are still in the fog of war stage with AI. It absolutely is going to impact society, culture, and the economy. It already has, obviously. Many companies have done significant layoffs citing AI advances and also are not hiring certain job roles because they've taken an "AI First" approach (including my own company).

At a minimum, anyone that can't acknowledge its potential to do both massive harm and good (as with all new tech) is ignorant of history and/or doesn't understand how the world works.

We've already entered that reality. AI could certainly accelerate it further though.

As AI replaces people the cost of goods and services will decrease proportionately to the amount of replacement
