100% agree. Speeding is a problem.

But, this is a situation where 2 wrongs amplifies the problem:

Driving the speed limit in the left hand lane only compounds the problem of speeding.

1) Encourages agressive driving
2) Impedes normal traffic flow which mixes slower vehicles with faster.
3) Puts "enforcement" in the hands of us yoyo's instead of law enforcement.
4) All of this is compounded when it takes place mixed with all the trailer rigs on highways.
...

That is the reason it is illegal. If the traffic gods thought driving the speed limit in the left hand lane improved the issue of speeding, it would not have been made illegal.

Im with you. No one should cruise in the left lane, whether you are speeding, going the posited limit or going below the posted limit.

The left lane should be clear except fro those in the act of passing another car.

But just wanted to point out speeding is still the leading cause of deaths on the highways of America, not distracted driving.

I had a boss that could text on his phone and talk to me, all while driving better than 90% of the cars on the road. The first experience was a little unnerving but I quickly learned he was just a person with high ability. I have some other friends and co workers I would put into the same category.

And at the same time I have family members that can't drive safely with two hands on the wheel, no chemicals in their system, and 100% focused on the task at hand. A couple friends fall into that group. I never let them drive if I can take the wheel instead. Not worth risking my safety by letting them drive a vehicle they have no business driving.

How do you write a law that actually makes driving better with the two groups sharing the road?

I had more confidence in his distracted driving than most of the other drivers know.

The state of Texas has these laws but enforcement varies... (revised)

These are impossible to enforce, it's a dumb law everywhere.
