Why doesn't someone sue the Drudge Report for slander, and in the meantime, out the ownership?

These are the headlines this morning regarding Elon:

THINGS GOT PHYSICAL IN WHITE HOUSE?

I'd love for someone like Elon force the current ownership of Drudge report to show their faces in court. Worst case, they can force the recluse to have to put on his fedora and appear in public.

He didn't look good yesterday. No idea what drug causes that tick, but he didn't have it before

Musk talks about his drug use regularly for his depression.

Those are all references to the article. The NYT article reports that his use of ketamine was so high it was affecting his bladder and he regularly took ecstasy, mushrooms, and adderall

Drudge did write the words in the hyperlinks though. They can't claim immunity under 230 of the communications decency act for that.


As for why Musk doesn't sue over this, he probably doesn't want to be under oath about drug use. I'm not saying he's a Ketamine addict, but it's probably a wiser strategy to ignore this than Streisand effect it.

You made some excellent points.

Since slander requires the information that is published to be false, if they could prove it to be true, then he would lose the case. Also, there is a larger barrier, I think, for public figures than for normal private citizens.

As I understand it, it doesn't matter whether it is true or false in England. There, if it damages his reputation, he would have a much better chance of recovering damages. But this isn't England.

I'd love to know how the view counts compare between old Drudge and new Drudge. Would be very telling.

We tend to have a 'Drudge Report is leftist tripe nowadays' thread at least twice a year. Rantingly.com is what one can check out alternatively for the same style. It's not updated as often as the ancient version of drudge was, though.

It's 2025. If you're still going to Drudge, you also need to turn off the evening news and it's probably time to schedule your next colonoscopy.

I agree Drudge is garbage, but for me it's like a train wreck. When it's a slow news day, I might go there to see what the TDS folks are saying about Trump.

I do think Drudge has become the National Enquirer of politics though, and I'd love to see someone use that as leverage to figure out the ownership in a court of law and expose whatever is going on there.

Drudge literally used to be the #1 destination for people on the right. I'm in my 40s and I have a few "conservative" friends who still check Drudge Report daily and use Drudge as inspiration for their dislike of Trump. There's no doubt Drudge still syphons off support for Trump, whether it's owned by Matt Drudge or not.

Personally, I think Drudge should be a target of the Trump administration. They'd gain infinitely more exposing/outing Drudge than they would suing CBS.

Yep exactly this. And even if it's not a winnable suit, you can't tell me that it wouldn't pay for itself several times over. Imagine finding out that Drudge was bought out by the Lincoln project or some soros funded thing. That would be huge when it comes to showing collusion between left leaning orgs and media organizations, especially with the secrecy it's been wrapped in.

When the site was actually run by Matt, some of the Clinton White House folks leaked false info to Drudge on Sidney Blumenthal as a setup. Unfortunately, Matt ran with it either without getting Blumenthal or someone in his camp on the record denying it, or with a simple denial. Anyway, Blumenthal sued Drudge and I think they settled but it was pretty obvious what was going on there. Blumenthal is an absolute POS but Drudge should have known better.

After that, he quit "breaking" stories and simply posted links.

Elon is the tip of the iceberg. It seems this administration is rife with serious substance abuse, and that seems unhealthy and dangerous across the board.

I hope the various parties abusing drugs and alcohol get the help they need ASAP for the sake of their loved ones and the country.

The NYT article was complete trash and I'm surprised Musk hasn't sued them yet. Lots of direct references to Musk's fake news Nazi salute. Kind of makes the rest of the "reporting" seem a bit fake.

Also amazing how they could get so many details about musk's drug use and baby drama but still haven't figured out who had cocaine in the White House or what drugs Biden was being pumped with for his public appearances.

Elon's drug use has been well documented for years. Does anyone actually doubt it?

Ann Coulter just commented on this. I have always wondered why nobody has asked her about Drudge. Sounds like she doesn't know either but believes the rumors.

Many thought when Drudge turned against Trump, it was because of her and their close relationship. In fact I think one of the last public sightings of drudge was with Coulter.

I thought it was widely reported at the time that Matt sold the Drudge Report. I didn't expect him to ride off into the sunset with a big pile of cash but it looks like he did. Good for him. Go enjoy life.

I check it for things Citizen Free Press and Texags won't report.

There's been no reports of that, only rumors. Even in the video I shared earlier, coulter appears to not be certain.

I've never read the Drudge Report but this thing is fascinating to me that no one seems to really know what happened. How has that been kept a secret all this time with how easy it is to find something out like this? This is somewhat rhetorical because if this had been a conservative entity buying out a leftist entity, we would all know what happened because the rest of leftist media would have thrown resources at it to find out who took out one of their own.

He was notoriously reclusive and barely showed his face. Doesn't surprise me that he just decided to disappear after the sale.

But it has always been curious to me that considering how right leaning he was, that he hasn't said ANYTHING at all about how the brand (his name) has been destroyed. He was so proud about being the go to website
