In the military, "86" is slang for removing, discarding, cancelling, or eliminating something or someone. It is used informally to mean getting rid of equipment, denying access to personnel, or calling off a mission. In extreme contexts, it can mean to neutralize or kill.

yuh huh.

When's the trial for whoever designed this?

What are you babbling about?

Why would you possibly be a witness? "Turns state's evidence" is hilarious.

I would think if anything he should lawyer up. He apparently tweeted "86 46" in January 2022.

Yep, here's some more info. What a waste of time and money...

Oh no - the GOP is being accused of having "double standards." Whatever will we do?

Not disputing that. Unimpressed with this indictment against Comey. While the statutes under which he was charged have survived constitutional first amendment challenges and I intensely dislike Comey, the karmic schadenfreude isn't quite enough to excite me. He financially ruined a lot of people just because he disagreed with their politics.

So file this under "can dish it out but can't take it" type of action. The reason the 2020 election was so critical to the Dems to cheat their way into Biden being installed was to let the SOLs run out against a crap ton of people. And I mean a crap ton of DC movers and shakers.

As an attorney, they won that round of beat the clock. So I'm resigned to accept that fact.

There's a difference between agreeing with what someone says and agreeing with their right to say it.

Yes. The whole point of the Skokie decision. (American Nazi march through Skokie Illinois in which many Holocaust survivors lived, for the youngsters.)

Personally I'm shocked that someone who would defend free speech in one instance would defend it in another.

Nobody has questioned Kimmel's right to say what he did. I do question how a person can be that twisted as to think it was in any way funny. Comey? Im not sure constitutionally whether the first amendment defends calling for someone's murder. The very concept that a person in his position would do such a thing is troubling to say the least.

He doesn't have the right to call for the President's assassination.

Big if true.
Fortunately for Comey, the standard is what a reasonable person thinks he said, not what Ellis Wyatt thinks he said.

Are you pretending you believe he wasn't implying death to DT? Because that's ridiculous. All of the alternative explanations are plain stupid.

When the chef says "86 the salmon," they don't take the salmon out behind the restaurant and shoot it. Also. I've seen people 86'ed from a bar. The bouncer didn't throw them out and shoot them. I'm pretty damn sure I'm not the one with the stupid interpretation.
Ellis Wyatt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is James Comey a chef? That's a lame ****ing excuse. Of course he isn't. No serious person believes he meant anything other than what he meant and sought so much attention for. He found more attention than he ever wanted.

I hope he gets thrown in the hole in some ****ass jail like some of the J6ers got. **** that guy.

You're going to be sorely disappointed, because almost no one believes the high plains gibberish you're proposing, that Comey wished for Trump to die. Because only fringe crazies hold that position.
Read the room. Lots of conservatives on this very thread think this case is weak at best. They're not wrong.

I absolutely don't believe he'll be found guilty, but every single one of us knows he is. You do, too.

Ellis he knows exactly what it meant. Dems just lie about it. If it meant nothing, Comey would have never even bothered about putting it out there. Such dishonesty.

"86" is a term associated w/ the mafia, meaning to kill someone, i. e., take them 8 miles out and bury them 6 feet under. Comey made his name as the USA in the Southern District in New York prosecuting the Gambino crime family (including 'Fat Tony' Salerno). Comey has referred to Trump recently as having mafia-like behavior, and discusses his prosecutorial experience and comparisons of Trump to the mafia in his book (he used the '8647' comment in relation to selling his new book last year).

I read the DoJ is now moving to seize his book proceeds, not sure if true at this point.

Grok from his older 2018 book:
Quote:

The ordinary nature of evil: Comey reflects on meeting mafia figures, including killers, and how unremarkable they seemed in person. A prominent quote: "I wish I could say I felt something different when I was in the presence of a mass murderer, handing me a cup of espresso in an empty convent. In the movies, some foreboding music might play in the background or the light might dim. But there was none of that. Evil has an ordinary face. It laughs, it cries, it deflects, it rationalizes, it makes great pasta. These killers were people who had crossed an indelible line in human experience by intentionally taking another life. None of them saw themselves as bad people."

Mafia culture and leadership insights: He learned about the insular, loyalty-driven world of La Cosa Nostra (including from cooperating witnesses like Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano). This included codes of silence, "made men," loyalty oaths, and an us-versus-them mentality. He portrays mafia bosses as bullies who thrive on fear and control, and notes how this experience shaped his views on ethical leadership versus transactional or fear-based power.
...
Much of the mafia discussion serves as background or analogy in the bookespecially to contrast with later experiences (like his interactions with Donald Trump, which he likens to mob boss dynamics). However, Comey frames his prosecutorial work positively as a grounding experience in pursuing justice against serious criminals.

To claim he saw it as a reference to restaurant slang is absurd. He thought it was a cute way to signal to the 'Comey is my homey' types that he wanted a man dead, because he did. And btw, he started writing fiction in 2023, and his most recent book is a fantasy of his essentially about a right wing podcaster inciting violence:
Quote:

FDR Drive is a legal thriller centered on federal prosecutor Nora Carleton handling a high-stakes case involving a right-wing podcaster accused of inciting violence, free speech issues, and domestic extremism threats in New York.

It's damn clear to me that mafia-talk/codes, inciting violence in a clever way, and his experience in NY and working for/getting fired by Trump were all top of mind when he used this coded threat to promote this book last year. He also laughed about the incident with Jimmy Kimmel (to promote the book) the week he posted the instagram image.

Not directed to me, but it makes for an interesting discussion so I will answer.

I think he meant to make a vague statement that he knew many people would take to mean kill, but could also claim plausible deniability because it doe have different meanings like "get rid of"

Just more silly posturing. What a waste of time.

FJB is now understood to mean Biden actually had millions of suitors wanting some action.

And.Trump really believes he's Christ.

This is all so stupid.

I agree with you. But he wasn't insinuating "hold the mayo." He knew how it would be taken. That was why he did it.

People get arrested for talking about assassination. He won a stupid prize. And he should have.
Ellis Wyatt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Do you think Trump would have been arrested had he made an insinuation like this against Biden?

He was prosecuted for made up crimes. His house was raided for non-crimes. Turnabout is fair play. Comey knew what he was doing and now he knows it was a really, really dumb move. I hope it ties up lots of time and money for him.

The fact these politicians, bureaucrats, celebrities etc are doing this at all is what should concern everyone. Yes, 8647 can be interpreted several different ways but ask yourself why they choose to use that phrase instead of invoke the 25th which is how a sitting president is removed from office. They know EXACTLY what they are insinuating and encouraging and it's not to have Trump removed from office legally and peacefully. This is the point we have reached in Americas politics and that should concern everyone. We are headed down a road that doesn't end well.

Especially when we've seen over and over and over that liberal activists are willing to kill.
