However, rogue communication devices not listed in product documents have been found in some Chinese solar power inverters by U.S experts who strip down equipment hooked up to grids to check for security issues, the two people said.

Over the past nine months, undocumented communication devices, including cellular radios, have also been found in some batteries from multiple Chinese suppliers, one of them said.

The rogue components provide additional, undocumented communication channels that could allow firewalls to be circumvented remotely, with potentially catastrophic consequences, the two people said.

A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington said: "We oppose the generalisation of the concept of national security, distorting and smearing China's infrastructure achievements."

Using the rogue communication devices to skirt firewalls and switch off inverters remotely, or change their settings, could destabilize power grids, damage energy infrastructure, and trigger widespread blackouts, experts said.
Whether you agree or disagree with the tact of using Tariffs, we need other sources of supply.

China is not our friend and they've been caught installing trojan horses multiple times, while we just continue to consume their candy coated poisons to our hearts content.

You are going to need to increase that to hundreds of times... ZTE, Huawei, HKVision, DJI, TP Link, Dahua, etc etc.. the list is so long over the years, and it ain't just hardware.

What has always amazed me is that even with these obvious risks and companies being caught, we still allow their hardware and services to be sold here.

China is our enemy. Period. After Covid and in a sane world, they would have been the world's pariah. They are underhanded and only look out for themselves. They will do anything they can to give themselves an advantage. Any country that engages and tolerates them for economic reasons deserves whatever they get. Our goal should be to minimize them as much as possible and do everything we can to torpedo their economy, both to weaken them and show the world what happens when you mess with a real superpower.

Don't be so naive as to think we don't have back doors into their critical infrastructure as well.

Which makes sense, but that's also seems to be the opposite of what we're actually doing.

Don't think I made that claim.

But I also know our components over there, are not as pervasive as their parts over here.

Anything made in China, whether made by a Chinese or an American company, could be compromised.

That doesn't mean we should knowingly and willingly enable them to create backbdoors into our systems.

PSA: TP Link has ~65% market share in the US for routers.

If you are using one, you need to replace it. It's Chinese spyware.

Democrats have been in bed with China since Bill Clinton's first term in which he facilitated the transfer of classified satellite and milling technology to the Chicoms in exchange for cash. Since then, they have been selling America down the river…
