I guess we can chalk the whole bird flu and flock culling up to "government inference" in the market space.

It makes good business sense for farmers to take advantage of the program to clear out older flocks and replace them with younger birds. Not to mention charge a premium on a commodity for a short period of time.

Call me cynical, I am guessing the actual farmers only get a portion of the total pay outs, the rest gets recycled into political "donations".

My "family owned" and operated egg producer client has 200,000 birds.

That's one of the things that the OP fails to understand. There are millions of small 'mom and pop' type farms out there. But the vast majority of production comes from just a few superfarms, most of which are family owned corporations.

Even on the small scale, the man leasing my mom's land, is working the same land that five farmers and five farm hands did just a generation (40 years) ago. He does it with himself, two college grad hands, and vast amounts of technology and machinery.

Forty years before that (1965) the same land would have been operated by 25 farmers and 25 hands.

Why are small rural communities drying up? Because three men are farming the land that 50 did when I was a kid. The numbers of grocery stores and shops die at the same rate.

In Trump's first term one could get a dozen eggs for under $2 and dozen. People complained, like i did, during Biden's term that prices went up and they shouldn't have.

Call me when the price of eggs, or gas, or groceries in general, go back to prices in Trump's fist term.

We all complained for years. Trump said prices would go back down.

Meh, easy enough compared to the other things I have to deal with.. toss a cup of feed into the chicken yard twice a day, let them out now and then, pick up eggs from the egg boxes, and add water to the water trough 2 times a week. Clean out the nest boxes maybe weekly.

It'll be better when they come down to where everyone complained for years they were supposed to be before they went up.

Now, when Trump gets prices back down to first term prices, then I'll be more than happy to give a "Good Trump."
