This was an easy call. There is NO reason for taxpayers to give CPB a dime.

Hated executive orders under Obama, Trump, Biden, becoming more and more about legislating things they want then staying within the scope of what an executive order can be.

CPB was established by congress in 1976, and NPR/PBS was established by congress under the power of the CPB.

After the loss against the CFPB, I see the likelihood of this EO going anywhere to be close to zero.

One thing though, is that the language of the CPB law requires the CPB to be non-biased. We already had congressional hearings which pretty much make that a farce.

It will be fun, however, to listen to NPR and PBS to defend the non-biased nature of their programming in court under oath and subject to perjury if this makes it to trial. Will make for fun headlines and sound-bites.

Just imagine how much fun it will be to use AI to come up with fun trial exhibits. Simple word diagrams that show the propensity of words used in the same sentence as Trump versus Biden would be absolutely freaking hilarious.

Imagine a diagram that shows top 5 words related to Trump to be: fraud, illegal, impeached, Russia, and lie; and top 5 words related to Biden to be: sharp, competent, truth, popular, protector.

It's a simple algorithm that wouldn't be hard to write with all of the data. And you could share the algorithm and open it for cross examination. And it is a method that is scientifically accepted in the media industry.

Republicans have been griping about this for decades. Those orgs are practically communist they tilt so far left. Trump is the first to actually do anything about it.

When I think about how the stripping of federal government funding and affiliation affects the ego and self-image of NPR staff, waves of schadenfreude just wash over me.

I think an injunction on this one is likely fair, depending on the wording of the order.

I haven't read the EO.

If Trump is just cutting off all funding due to it being biased, I think he is stepping on Congress' toes here. I think that the burden is on the executive to deny funding due to media bias.

This actually might just be goading a lawsuit about the Impoundment Act, but I think that would be a bad gamble by the administration on this fact pattern.

But, the law establishing CPB dictates that NPR and PBS have to be non-biased. There is no such law for MSM.

I think proving that NPR and PBS are biased will be easy with the fact pattern and technology we have.

I think that NPR and PBS deserve their day in court to defend accusations that they are biased. I don't think that they should be shut down before their day in court, however. We will see.

But, Trump has this habit of calling out impolite truths. It is a truth that NPR is biased. But, it is impolite to say so in Washington DC. Trump goes completely honey-badger on all of these impolite truths. And, I love it.

With so many people getting their news from online sources, it makes sense to do away with this crap. It's unneeded and unwanted.

Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser was on PBS for 32 years. It's what this finance major watched on Friday nights during college. Loved it. Watched it until it went off the Air.

Some other shows I can think of that were/are on PBS that did not kill America:

Austin City Limits
NOVA
Masterpiece Theatre
All Creatures Great and Small
Baseball
The Civil War
The War (yeah, I know Ken Burns is a Democrat from New York)

PBS and NPR get chump change from our federal tax dollars (maybe 10 or 15% of their funding, directly and indirectly). They will survive.

If you ever ate at McDonalds in the old days, you helped fund Mrs Ray Kroc's 100s of millions of dollars in donations. If you are a Liberty Mutual customer, same thing. The list goes on and on.

I'm fine with federal funding being cut off, but it's the whole "Congress funds things" (Congress funds, the President can veto, or sign it, etc). I have no idea about Presidential EOs being legal. It seems Biden did all sorts of EOs I did not think were appropriate or legal.

Maybe it's your representatives in Congress that you should express your feelings towards?

PBS and NPR both have great content. Much more even and educational than MSM.

That's the stat they roll out when they want more funding.

When they are in danger of less funding, they cry than any cuts will be "devastating".

It seems to me like the ability to close down departments that one doesn't like is pretty much a line item veto.

Efforts have been made to reintroduce the line item veto and they have all failed. Without a line item veto, it doesn't seem reasonable that a President can override the will of Congress.

Would it not be better to get Congress to pass bills eliminating that spending then to pretend that Trump has the power of a line item veto when he clearly does not?

We need to reduce a whole lot of spending and this is probably some good spending to cut, but it doesn't seem like this is the legal way to do it.

This needed to happen a long time ago. If Congress could get off their ass they could make this permanent. Next dem pres will just restore it.

Agreed but this Congress sure doesn't seem very motivated. I think they're trying to slow play Trump and mitigate the damage they think he's doing. They just want to get back to their private jets, steak dinners, trips to the Cayman's while telling us to take the subway.
