Japan, South Korea and China agreed on Sunday to continue trilateral economic and trade cooperation to address "emerging challenges," a partnership that has become more crucial than ever as the U.S. trade war shatters the global order.
We will keep discussions for speeding up negotiations for a Trilateral FTA with a view to realizing a free, fair, comprehensive, high-quality and mutually beneficial FTA with its own value," they said in a joint statement issued after the meeting.

Our two largest allies, and our largest trading partners, aside from China, in the Far East, are turning towards China for support. Tariffs are a recipe for losing friends and making our enemies stronger. America in decline.
Yeah, plus European countries and Canada are already working to contribute to their own self defense. And Latin American countries are taking responsibility for their own criminal migrants. And Mexico has moved its military to the border to help reduce illegal crossings by 95%. And liberal whackos are outing themselves by terrorizing the Tesla vehicles that are recording them and raging that SpaceX rescued the astronauts Biden left
to die. And corporations and schools are admitting there are two genders and stopping the DEI and gender madness. And food, fuel, and housing prices are coming down. And government waste and fraud is collapsing, slowing our massive national debt. I tell ya, President Trump's administration has already had two months and nothing they've done is working!

The United States market is still and will be the economic engine that runs the world. These countries can balk all they want, but they need our markets open to their goods. No other country has a citizenry with anywhere near the disposable income of most Americans. We are in the driver's seat and thankfully we have a president that finally understands it and knows how to leverage it.

Yep. Europe tariffs many things and usually loses in court.

Three countries that have a long and continuing dislike/distrust of the other. I'm sure it will work out just great for them.

If reciprocal tariffs cause Japan and Korea to buddy up with China…. And Europe and Canada and Mexico don't like America anymore, then all these countries can defend themselves and the USA should prohibit them selling their goods into our country.

Let's play that game and see how it goes for everybody

I have a feeling the CEO's of these companies in other countries whose primary market is the United States will put a metric ton of pressure on their government leaders to capitulate to Trump and lower or completely remove their tariffs.

When these companies see their sales numbers start to drop significantly with tariffs I doubt they will want to play the game for long.

However, if Trump is wrong and these companies don't give a **** about their bottom line and laying off their workers because their largest market just closed up to them then yes, Americans will start paying more for items they really want.

I suspect many Americans will forego some purchases. For instance, if TV's double in price I bet a lot of consumers here just stop purchasing them and that will really hurt Japan and South Korea. Yes, there will be some Americans who will continue to buy them and they will be paying considerably more but I bet overall the sales will fall significantly.

We shall see.

Yes. The way out is to stop buying foreign goods as much.

So other countries put tarrifs on us good.

We place tarrifs on them bad?

Do i have this right?

This is typical Boomer logic. The ones who are retired, have large portfolios and need the US to not place tariffs in order to grow the portfolio. They think short term (maybe 10-25 years) as they don't expect to live beyond that. This group doesn't necessarily care about the country they left their kids of grandkids, they will fend for themselves, those lazy entitled bums!

Pretty much.

Boomers ****ed over every successive generation with integrating woke ideology in schools, FTA, opening up to China, refusing to address and privatize SS, COVID shutdowns.

Basically screwing over their kids and grandkids at every turn.

And then don't understand why their children and grandchildren detest their philosophy of life.

There has never been a singularly more selfish generation in the history of our country. Never before has a dying generation demanded the younger generation sacrifice and cripple themselves so that the older generation can survive.

It is a sign that our culture is dead.

Our two largest trading partners in the East are turning towards China for support. Tariffs are a recipe for losing friends and making our enemies stronger. America in decline.
So Japan and South Korea think turning to China and its terrible economy is the answer? They will change their tune in short order.
The Chinese economy is cratering towards a MAJOR recession and possible depression. Furthermore, they have another massive disease outbreak. This time H5N1 Bird Flu, which is so much deadlier than covid. It is like Groundhog Day for outbreaks of diseases for them. Outbreak after outbreak after outbreak. Continously from 2019. Finally, their population is probably at most 600 million people. They have lost tons of population to disease over the last 6 years. THESE CITIES ARE NOW EMPTY !!! EVEN REGULAR CHINESE ARE CATCHING ON THAT A TON OF PEOPLE ARE GONE !!!!

Japan has been a pretty reliable trade partner over the years ~ I get wanting to stick it to China as they dump products, have slave labor, and generally up to no good.

But smashing Japan is a terrible idea.

I listened to an interesting podcast on this with Scott Bessent. We consume 20 T of goods every year. China doesn't come close. Ppl will still sell to us despite the tariffs because we're the world's biggest buyer. They don't have options

The average Chinese citizen is in survival mode. They are only buying the bare necessities to survive. Furthermore, China is broke; it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to take your own money out of your account nowadays. This is across all of China

Just watch the frst 3:30 seconds of the video. Especially the 2nd lady it is unreal how they wont give her her money and she nails the corruption part !! I have seen dozens of these videos. The banks have no money so they making it a nightmare for people to withdrawl any of their money,

The United States government actually consciously propped up Japan's economy post WW2 with DRAM chips as a preventative barrier to stop the spread of communism.

Get people out of the fields with good wages and producing goods for the rest of the world. Hard to like communism if you have a few yen in your pocket.

They also dumped chips in the 80s just like China is doing now, so you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

If you do any study on the history of that part of Asia you will know the odds of a real trade agreement and partnership between SK, Japan, and China working is probably about the same as Israel, Saudi, and Iran getting together. The amount of bad blood and hate between those countries is hard to overstate and goes back quite literally thousands of years.

I could see some type of "agreement" being made but only because the countries want to screw each other over somehow. There will never be even a low level of trust between them, ever.

Can you provide specifics as to how Japan and SK have been "ripping us off for decades"? Or is this comment merely feelz.

Liberals calling someone out for parroting someone else is rich. You are sheep, so go back to DU or ActBlue and get your talking points.

You just supported a dementia riddled potato for four years and gladly pulled the lever for a drunk, cackling idiot who slept her way to where she is.

God the liberals sure are emboldened with the signal scandal. Go torch a Tesla dealership.

Please quote my post where I said they were an issue.

outside of just being another off-shore contract manufacturer for computer chips, they grew their economy using silicon valley designs and printed the **** out of them. that was intelligent and their prerogative.

The United States government did that on purpose and it was all by design. That's all.

I cited history. What I said is historically true.

Ok, I was just asking in case I needed to learn something. Thanks for explaining.

And yes, we purposely propped up Japan / Germany / amongst other countries for long periods of time for certain reasons.
