In my day "restorative discipline" was administered at the business end of a wooden paddle.

My wife's middle school does something similar "restorative discipline" although I don't recall that term being specifically used. Her idiot principal created the "reset room" where the cretin is sent to "reflect" on their actions before being returned to the classroom.
As I have said so many times before, the single biggest problem (and there are many) in public schools is not kicking out the habitual offenders. Get them out.

You wouldn't even believe the left wing claptrap ideology at work at an elementary school as well. It's comical.Urban Ag said:

Saw on KWTX the clown superintendent for Killeen isd was out of state at a conference, and had to fly back last night and issue a statement on video to reassure parents their schools are safe.
1. Your schools aren't safe
2. You create the environment
3. Very few women should be secondary administrators
Before leaving education I was an assistant principal at a high school. Admins and specifically female admins create the worst environments for campuses. I'll get blasted for that but I've seen enough of it.
Literally right now, the KISD school board is in a meeting about "DAEP re-imagined." Coincidentally, considering yesterday's death.Owlagdad said:
I googled, "does Killeen Isd use Restorative discipilne"? Yes, they do.
I googled restorative discipline. As defined," It allows students to reflect upon and grow from errors in judgement and conflicts without being sent out of classroom. It is repair process, and kids evaluate harm done."

During Tuesday's workshop meeting, Killeen ISD trustees discussed a proposal from a committee led by Susan Buckley, assistant superintendent for Administrative Services, titled DAEP Re-Imagined.
The Disciplinary Alternative Education Program known as DAEP is defined by the Texas Education Association as an action group and pertains to all actions for students being placed or expelled to an on-campus or an off-campus program for the current year or for a continuation from the prior year.
Killeen ISD defines it as a placement for students who have violated certain provisions of the Student Code of Conduct.
To introduce the presentation, Buckley explained that the mission of the Re-Imagined DAEP was to transform the current program by focusing on social-emotional learning or SEL and create a supportive environment for students.
"The goal of this committee is to transform the DAEP program by focusing on the social and emotional learning of SEL and creating a supportive environment for students to focus on the root cause of their behavior and why they are there," Buckley said.
The new plan has five key components, including SEL support, "Capturing Kids Hearts" activities, "Mindful Moments" daily lessons, individualized group lessons and individualized exit transition plans.
Characterizing this new initiative, Buckley said, "this emphasizes that DAEP is not a pipeline to prison, but a pipeline to potential that will empower students to thrive academically and personally.
"By focusing on holistic development, we aim to create a brighter future for all DAEP students," Buckley said. "We're trying to make it more of a therapeutic learning wraparound service."

It illustrates exactly how a student could get killed after being placed back in a school. And they went ahead with the meeting anyway.KerrAg76 said:

Ya know, some students think of kindness as a weakness and will take advantage of the good graces of well meaning folks. Human nature. And liberals dont understand it, and just like this BS above, they throw money at it and of course politicians make hay out of it, power and grift wise.
Because we took away the ability for young men to be young men. We try to act like we are different from animals in the wild, but we display a lot of the same characteristics. For women we sat them in front of a screen and destroyed any semblance of normal behavior while absolutely destroying their developmental stages. Sprinkle in the feminist movement and here we are.whatthehey78 said:
What I've never understood relative to these situations...WHY do today's kids resort to murder as a solution?? Yes...I'm and 'old'...graduated HS in '64 but as best I can remember, we NEVER even considered murder of another student or teacher. Fist fight among the guys and afterwards it was over. Winner was perhaps congratulated and the loser consoled. Didn't happen between them again because everyone knew the probable outcome beforehand. We all knew the serious consequences AND they would be administered in short order.
How the hell did we arrive at this situation in our schools??? WHAT is wrong with people???

My experience with 2 boys in suburban area:
Soft female administrators in schools,
Female Elementary = no more recess tag, football, basketball games and only inclusive activities allowed…. So boys spend the time just walking around
Female Middle School = Boy Scouts banned, no shop class, everyone in a homeEc class
HS= male principal law and order, and year round sports kept them from trouble
I spent many hours in principal office grades 1-8 complaining. They heard me out but "knew better" than to listen to my advice
