I have zero appreciation for how he handled himself in the WH. You just don't treat people that have been your top supporters that way in public. Netanyahu had plenty of disagreement with Biden. But he was not so obtuse to walk into the oval office and talk to one of the only people that can help him with disrespect in front of the media. To do that you are either foolish, arrogant or both.
I don't wish Ukraine ill. I hope it works out for them as they are clearly the victims here. But they are also the victim of having an arrogant and/or foolish leader.

But you could feel the money flow needs to stop and that war needs to end while still having some empathy for and understanding that guy's difficult position and the position of his people. They can be mutually exclusive things.
If YOU were in this guy's shoes back on 2022...Ukraine was YOUR country...what would you have done differently than he had done? You'd have immediately surrendered to the Russians because you wouldn't have had the stomach for a fight? You wouldn't have been begging/borrowing doing anything you could to try to fund raise $$$$ to support your troops from other countries?
If you are upset about the $$$ then why not blame the people who gave him the money, rather than blame him even asking for it?
Is the hate because he's been labeled a 'dictator' by some? How are they supposed to hold logistically execute an election over there if right now 7 million are outside the country as refugees, another million are on the front lines, 20% of the territory is occupied by hostile forces, etc. Do we really expect them to somehow hold an election under such circumstances that would produce a politically stable result?
What you first need is the war to stop in such circumstances then you do an election.
Do you think the guy has been stealing a bunch of money? If so, exactly how and how much (verified proof)? Is literally stacks of cash being sent over there to Zelensky's bank account or has the '$$$' value been delivered in the form of humanitarian assistance, supplies, weapons systems and vehicles, ammunition,, etc.? If it is the latter, is there some kind of indication that much of that assistance has somehow been diverted from their war effort?
Clearly at least decent amount of that assistance has been used as intended, given the Russians have taken a beating as well in this 3-year fight. The Ukrainians haven't been throwing rocks at the Russians.
Again...this war should stop. Wanting to stop funding it is totally justified. But the hate for this guy who has been trying to lead his country in very difficult circumstances in a very difficult fight, I just don't get that angle.

No one is saying they shouldn't. By all means they should fight as long as they want. However, if they expect support, then those providing support have a right to exercise sober judgement in how the resources are being used and the likelihood of success. This is how financial decisions are made. You don't walk into a bank and ask money without showing a plan for your use of the money and you especially don't treat the bank manager with disdain while asking. That's essentially what happened.
If the US was actually invaded and at war as your hypothetical suggests, do you honestly believe anyone would be spending unlimited resources to help us (even without Trump in office)? They might make some strong remarks and make some pro forma gestures, but they wouldn't fund an unending resistance even if we did have a likelihood of success.

That's a nice red herring that will never happen in any of our lifetimes. Especially under Trump and having the strongest military force in the entire world. Especially not by either of our 2 neighboring counties, and if either one of them tried the war would be over as quickly as it was started by either Canada or Mexico.
Neither Ukraine nor Russia is going to get everything that they want, but they need to get at the table or several more hundred of thousands of lives will be lost….on both sides. Do you support that? Do you support U.S. taxpayer $ continuing to be sent over there without any guarantees or repayment? Especially while their neighbors in Europe sit mostly idly by, while spending $ on Russian oil.
