Been around since 1990 - just a new name.It sounds like the Gold Card would replace the EB-5 visa, which is pretty similar. pic.twitter.com/J241EXsnIv

The program was (is?) either you have a good job or you put down good money for legal immigration. In this way you will not be a burden to the taxpayer.Monkeypoxfighter said:
Didn't Australia or New Zealand have something similar not long ago? You had to have "X" amount of dollars to potentially invest and you were welcomed with open arms as I recall. Sounds like a good way to get some Aussies and South Africans here.

10M will be the cost of the even better Platinum Card! Think it will come with enhanced membership benefits like TSA pre-check.infinity ag said:
We don't know that 5M is the right price. There must be a provision to increase it if too many people take it up. Maybe we can at some point jack it up to 10M
There are more than a couple of countries that do this.Monkeypoxfighter said:

Is the proposed gold card instant citizenship? I would figure anyone on the current EB-5 can apply for citizenship on the same schedule as an ordinary green card holder, provided they obey laws, pay taxes, etc. And I generally have no issue with a person who comes here legally and playing by the rules having a pathway to citizenship, though I am unsure of a $5 million automatic buy-in.TRM said:

I have had a couple of these opportunities presented to me as residential and/or commercial construction can be one of the "investments".torrid said:
And in general, I like the EB-5 program. From what I've read it's not just putting money in US investments (which is kind of what the gold card sounds like) but you have to start a viable business and have real employees.
OK yeah, I can see that. I don't think construction is a good use of the EB-5 program. I was thinking more of a tech start-up.flown-the-coop said:I have had a couple of these opportunities presented to me as residential and/or commercial construction can be one of the "investments".torrid said:

I would rather see programs that support US citizens in making investments and creating jobs. The EB-5 programs should be rare and expensive. I am not sure $5MM is enough these days.

You want to attract capital.
Would like to think there will be some vetting of the applicants. I know, I know... those are very high expectations for any government effort. No Spin Ag said:Yukon Cornelius said:

Even if it comes by the way of drug dealers and terrorist backing Muslims? Both of which there are way more than any other group, and both of which would easily pass, if not them, the ones they'd give the money to.

They are doing background checks and a vetting process. And those people are already here

Also, typically those with cash sourced from illicit activities are not keen to wash those through a government program that will have additional scrutiny.
Its been a few years since I went through one of these at any degree of detail, but the applicants had wealth from verifiable sources that did not include cartels and terrorists.
It is absolutely to valid to be concerned though and Trump team needs to layout the vetting.
A lot of other countries have something similar. New Zealand had a program for $3 million.fullback44 said:

What's easier then what's going on now? Feels like you're trying to find a reason not to like this idea and are grasping at "muh terrorists". Bro they are already here by the 1000s
