Federal employees flooding X with post about their creative plan to not follow simple instructions.

Deadline is Monday at 23:59 so don't get the Sunday blues or lay awake tonight ruminating over this major project.

Most attorneys have to account for their day in 6 minute increments. I'm not an attorney, but nearly every client I have ever had has favored some sort of mechanism to get an idea of what I'm doing for them on a weekly or monthly basis, mainly so they can report to their bosses. It is beyond easy in the weeks where I have done a lot for them-and harder in the weeks the activity level was low. I'm in a business where it is expected for workflow to vary. I actually found it beneficial to have a record and status of longer-term projects. Don't see at all why this exercise is an insurmountable burden-just do it.

For the average federal employee, Trump and Elon personally ordering them to send an email may well be the most exciting thing to ever happen in their entire career. So it's no wonder they spun into a tizzy like your mother in law on black Friday.

I spent my first 30 years working in the aerospace and defense industry. We had to do the same.

The biggest thing that will come from this. Millions of email addresses will get cleaned up. A current email address does not equal a paid employee.

Operated a lot of turnarounds all over the world. Cutting waste is always step one...do it immediately; ruthlessly, cut deep and get the bloated carcasses out of the way of the people that actually want to do something. Until they're gone; it's a drain on the system.

If you've been on this thread complaining about having to do the basics of any job (ie., go to work, accomplish something in pursuit of the mission, tell the boss what you've accomplished); then you're a major part of the problem and need to be off the government dole. Quit wasting my tax dollars.

As captain and chief mate I didnt stand watch. There is a lot to do on a ship, especially when you're working with a carrier strike group. As captain and to a slightly lesser extent chief mate you're always on call. There were also 70+ people on board which is a lot to manage, especially with the general quality of the employees the govt has been hiring over the past decade. Additionally, there are a lot of readiness inspections and other programs that have to be maintained being a grey hull govt vessel.

For people struggling with this:

1. Think of a verb. It can be any verb. (remember verbs are your action words). Briefed, communicated, drafted, analyzed, collaborated, executed.

2. Complete the action word sentence with something you did at work last week then STOP. As single sentence is all that is required here. Do not attach files or describe the details classified activities. A single sentence, period, then move on. This is key.

3. Go back and complete step one four more times.

4. Cut and paste, reply to the email and cc your supervisor. Do not copy Trump. Do not copy Elon. Do not send a copy to your union rep. Do not send a copy to your lawyer. Do not post your response on Facebook, X or Nextdoor.

Yeah it's a whopping 5 minutes per week. This is going to kill the efficiency of our Federal government workforce /hard eye roll

The irony in this whole drill…it is probably one of the silliest ways to weed out fraud. It's a terrible approach. You're going to get so many false positives - people's emails change, etc but they are still working with a new email, etc. If you want to really check for fraud, go department by department and reset all personnel direct deposit info and it has to be confirmed at a certain level of supervisor. This email attempt is laughable.

I've worked for two Fortune 100 companies. My email never changed at either one. I changed departments during that time but my email didn't change.

But, we are talking about the federal government here, so I'm sure they do stupid **** like that.

Also, the government IT should be managing the accounts and emails. They shouldn't have orphaned emails in the first place. If they do, then they probably have numerous abandoned logins that make for a huge security risk.

cool, I worked for DoD and Fortune 500. The IT is not the same. Also, what's to stop someone who is really not working from logging in and sending 5 bullets? They have OWA…cc a buddy. I say reset all direct deposit info.

yep…I worked a lot of joint jobs so email addresses sometimes change. I think I probably had 8 different unclass email addresses in 20 years.

I'm sure they eventually were cleaned up, but it wouldn't surprise me if I had four at one time, with only access to one.
