Dems can feel free to turn down the check and have it go to USAID.

Rebates should only be sent to people who actually pay income tax on a net basis.
Those who don't pay income tax or get refunds greater than their tax due have no skin in the game.

You know, some refunds are given to those folks who have overpaid their fair share of taxes. Should they be excluded?
I believe that's why he phrased it as "refunds greater than their tax due".AggieZUUL said:MemphisAg1 said:

I hear you guys that wanna pay down the debt. That's exactly how I manage my own finances.
But this is also about winning the optics battle with a huge mass of uneducated idiots. I'm ok with getting a rebate until they can prove that less of my money is being routed to a corrupt cause.

I don't need the money but lots of people right now do.
When I look at the median household income for Houston I shake my head and wonder how they do it.
Not even coming close to bragging here about my income as most people on this board probably have a nicer house, car etc than I do. I am just saying the idea that lots of people are struggling to pay for food is a real thing right now.
But while I might lack in income I do have a lovely singing voice, play the flute, and have many leather bound books.

You say that people are struggling and need money to pay for food.
Many others here (not you) also say that "everyone needs to have skin in the game" and "everyone needs to be taxed the same".
Both these arguments don't go well together.
Steve the homeless guy just is looking to pay for a place to stay, food etc. He doesn't care about balancing the budget, Ukraine, the stock market, tariffs. Why does he care about having skin in the game? So why tax him when he is a dumpster diver?
Some people here (not you) are amazing.

Not sure if more economic stimulation is a good thing at the moment...I'd prefer all of it going towards national debt in some way or another.

(Musk: )Few in America knew precisely what to expect from DOGE. The early perceived turbulence around leadership, the uncertainty around legal structure, and the lack of precedent for such a bold initiative created a sense of "show me" with DOGE. Just a month into President Trump's second term, DOGE is delivering. Full stop.
With DOGE reportedly achieving $1 billion in savings per day, President Trump has an opportunity to work with Congress to take DOGE one step further and deliver what we at Azoria call the "DOGE Dividend," a tax refund check to be sent after the expiration of DOGE in July 2026 funded exclusively with a portion of the total savings delivered by DOGE.(/ Musk)
However, the idea comes with some caveats, including that all recipients must be paying federal income tax in order to qualify…

What percentage of the tax bill did they pay?

In Sinclair Lewis's "It Can't Happen Here," the dictator promised $5000 to every American. The money didn't show up, but secret police and concentration camps did.
Anyway, hope this goes exactly as it's likely to go.
