This. No more giveaways for that is what Democrats do.
Psst. It's not a giveaway. It's our money we've already paid in. We can best decide how to direct those funds, not the gummint.
Trump will fix it.

Until Republicans present a balanced budget, or a surplus to pay down debt. I find it hard to celebrate any tax cuts.

So the Top 1% going to get 40% of the refund right?

You can't just "pay down the debt". Most of it is bonds with defined terms and service to the buyers.

You're right. We should increase inflation instead. Better yet, let's give it to Zelensky and Ukes so they can buy more yachts

Wtf? If I hold a bond why would I accept an early payoff if I'm under no obligation to?

If we managed to start running surpluses...

1. Stop issuing or cut back on issuance of new treasury bonds.

2. Let old bonds mature.

3. Buy bonds from secondary market and cancel them.

That's how you "pay down" the debt.

? So you don't want a balanced budget? If that's the case, just say so. Or, you just feel like trolling a liberal? I meant what I wrote, and that goes for whomever is in office. Republicans aren't "on-deck" anymore. Don't talk the talk if you're not going to walk the walk.

So is it best to spend it or to use it toward our crushing debt problem?

The problem is that it is not only the individuals that pay taxes that will get a "refund" but also those, the 50%, that do not pay taxes.

That is why I referred it as a "giveaway".

I hear you guys that wanna pay down the debt. That's exactly how I manage my own finances.

But this is also about winning the optics battle with a huge mass of uneducated idiots. I'm ok with getting a rebate until they can prove that less of my money is being routed to a corrupt cause.

Exactly this. DOGE needs ongoing political capital to make deeper cuts. This is only the beginning. Ongoing cuts will save more in the long term. The short term fiscally responsible answer is lay the debt.

The politically prudent and long-term fiscal decision likley is rebates.

I certainly do want a balanced budget. If my memory has failed me in regards to your past emphasis on the matter then I owe you an apology. It was my recollection that you tended to support the Democrat party's agenda for government.

I am able to celebrate even a modest reversal of the spending momentum we have seen over the past four years. It was truly unprecedented.

Quote:

'American taxpayers deserve a 'DOGE Dividend': 20% the money that DOGE saves should be sent back to hard-working Americans as a tax refund check.'

'It was their money in the first place! At $2 trillion in DOGE savings and 78 million tax-paying households, this is a $5,000 refund per household, with the remaining used to pay down the national debt. Elon Musk, let's do this! This is how we rebuild trust in our government.'

Over dinner my husband and I were doing the math and How much we have paid in taxes over the last 15 years and if our math is correct we have sent our government over $1 Million dollars.

Now that I am seeing what all those funds were spent on with all the NGOs and kickbacks to our officials and other government officials… give me my f-ing money back! Those of us that have been paying these taxes deserve to be repaid.

Not a fan. Balance the budget and then maybe, but even then, pay off some of the last few years debt.

They're not going to get anywhere close to balancing the budget much less paying off any years' of debt.

Sending any money as refunds is simply buying votes.

Sorry to break it to you dear, but the money is GONE.

Trump is just stopping payments that were scheduled to go out but have not gone out yet. He won't be able to get the money that was used to do sex changes in Guatemala or promote LGBTQ oin Rwanda as someone along the way has eaten it up.

Gone.

At most, he can find who okayed it and prosecute them.

So there is no money other than the one earmarked for spending on worthless stuff but now will remain in the treasury. That money should not be given out as refunds, that money should be used for legitimate Govt expenditure (I say pay down the debt)

Disagree. That refund can help fund what could become increased revenues in the future that will pay MORE debt.

The only times we've REALLY decreased taxes in this country, at least in recent history, was the early '60s under JFK and 20 years later under Reagan. Both times, we saw huge economic booms that were interrupted by tax INCREASES later. The tax reform act of '86, disguised as a cut, and in some ways it may have been, was a defacto increase due to what it did to passive real estate losses and other so-called loophole changes. It took us a decade to get out of that mess.

If Trump can foster a JFK/Reagan type economic boom, we'll see 12+ years of Republican administrations.
