As you mention, US AID was bipartisan and no holds were barred. CFPB also was a bipartisan effort (if I recall correctly).

There is a reason that Trump is following a different strategy this time. He listened to a lot of "experienced" politicians during his first term and filled his administration with people who were recommended to him. Turns out the only thing those people were experienced in was typical bureaucratic inefficiency. Bureaucrats protect each other, a lesson that Trump learned the hard way. He was very clear during this campaign that he wouldn't be fooled a second time. And, it bears repeating, his promise to fix the corruption resonated strongly with American voters.

As for this assertion that "we can't request the records," how do you know you can't? Have you tried?

You are repeatedly trying to stir up concern and hand wringing on this thread without anything but your own anxieties. Do you have any evidence of any kind?

The government has already had several breaches where citizen data has leaked out and that was looking before Musk.

At least with Musk I know it would do him no good to leak it or steal it intentionally.

I believe your premise is incorrect. He is not there to audit individual returns, but the way the IRS is using the resources it has. My mother has been a tax preparer since the 70's and nothing has changed except the added regulations to the tax code every year and the way the IRS can't seem to do anything in a timely manner. It's a simple thing to want the agencies of our government to do things in a timely manner and be cost efficient with the money they are given. As no government organization is like that, then an audit should be done to find ways to make it better and more effective. The companies I have worked for do audits all the time trying to maximize the way they spend money, so I don't know why it's wrong for the government to do so. They only time someone should be concerned about an audit, is if they have something to hide.
