In the age of Doge, the answer is to limit access to the park if the public can't behave themselves.

We can't continue to pay for things we can't afford.

They already do.

You have to make a reservation and get a pass before you can go in.

If the Park can't accommodate the visitors, they can just shut it down. And block the entrances.

And no one is getting in through the HWY120 from the Eastern side from now until June or July. It would be fun to try.

That was my first thought.

A lot of these jobs are workfare imo.

Visited a lot of National Parks over the last 6-8 years and one thing is consistent, they are almost always packed full of people. In fact, what stands out to me other than the scenery is the couple of times that we didn't see a lot of other people.

It's just like all the other examples of progressive mentality. Catholics who attend TLM might turn violent, so we better investigate them. Same with parents at school board meetings. Now people who visit the national park, which is the sole function of a national park, to allow visitors, might damage the land because they are not "supervised". They preach victimhood despite the logical truth - even if there were a thousand national park employees running around, they couldn't possibly "supervise" all 1200 square miles of Yosemite. And there is a good chance that if a few dumbasses were causing damage somewhere, there would be hundreds of visitors there to stop them.

And how is that different than allowing millions, paying for millions of illegal aliens to enter the country? At least we can restrict access if the park based on staffing levels….

I'm pro national parks, and really pro not letting people trash them up. Plus, I'm in favor of Wildlife and Fisheries grads (which A&M has a ton of). It's a calling for most - and it's a calling that will result in you never earning a ton of money.

Rather have a few more park rangers around the country and lot fewer paper pushers in Washington DC.

I was in Las Vegas during the government shutdown in January, 2019. We went to Zion, Death Valley, and the Grand Canyon for free. The park stores were closed, and people were feeding a coyote from their cars in Badwater Basin (they had to euthanize him later), but it was cool to not pay the entry fees. People were trashing Joshua Tree, I recall.

Human animals in nature. Park will survive.

Not California, these are federal jobs.

They fly those positions in October. It takes 5 months to hire a seasonal.

It takes a year to hire many other positions in the federal govt.. Sometimes more.

Whole system is broke.

Did you read the article? If you look up hyperbole in the dictionary, you'd get a link to that article. There is no current "disaster". Will it get bad later in the season? Possibly so.
