I must say that Speaker Burrows/RINOs did a good job with House assignments

The Speaker Pro Tempore is a completely ceremonial position. The Speaker Pro Tempore was the same exact Democrat back in 2021 when Republicans passed the most conservative House legislation they have ever done like the heartbeat act, constitutional carry, and election integrity. Burrows gave Republicans majorities on every committee, Burrows gave Republicans supermajorities on many committees, he made the chair of every committee a Republican, and he gave grassroots conservatives that dominated in the 2024 Texas primaries positions inside very powerful committees.

Look at Criminal Jurisprudence which deals with all criminal justice legislation, crime issues, and the penal code. A grassroots conservative majority with chair John Smithee (Trump, Abbott, Paxton, Patrick, Miller, Buckingham, CLEAT, DPSOA, and APOA endorsed). Mitch Little (Texans for conservative majority and grassroots champion), AJ Louderback (Texans for conservative majority and contributions from Patrick with over $500k coming from Texans for conservative majority), Brent Money (Texans for conservative majority, beat RINO Jill Dutton, and $231k from Texans for conservative majority), David Cook (the reform candidate for speaker by grassroots conservatives), and Wes Virdell (Texans for a conservative majority $193k). Chair John Smithee was at the press conference with crime victims yesterday, and is carrying all of Greg Abbott and Senator Huffman's conservative bail reform legislation in the House. The Democrat Houston Mayor has endorsed the conservative new bail reform package. Believe it or not, even obnoxious liberal Democrat Gene Wu voted for this conservative bail reform legislation back in 2021, but sadly the Dem walkout on election integrity killed it.

The subcommittee chair on juvenile justice is also Republican David Cook who was the reform speaker pick by grassroots conservatives.

Look at Homeland Security and Public Safety which does all 2A legislation and legislation regarding law enforcement. Amazing grassroots conservatives like Katrina Pierson (GOA, AFC, Abbott, Patrick, Paxton, Tinderholt, Harrison, Toth, Little, Money, Vivek, Berry, Luther, and Miller endorsed). Rep Pierson was actually Trump's first national spokesperson for his 2016 campaign when he won for the first time. Pierson grew up with a single mother, and in extreme poverty. Janis Holt (Texans for conservative majority). AJ Louderback (Texans for conservative majority and contributions from Patrick with over $500k coming from Texans for conservative majority). Don McLaughlin (texans for conservative majority and the Mayor that cursed out Beto on national TV). Hillary Hickland (Trump, Paxton, and Paxton endorsed). Carrie Isaac (Ted Cruz, GOA, Allen West, Miller, Christian, Tinderholt, and Conservatives for Law Enforcement and Border Security PAC large receiver of contributions). They will join Republicans Mark Dozario and Cole Hefner in the majority.

We will be getting some of the most tough on crime conservative criminal justice laws, and conservative pro-2A legislation in Texas House history.

Republican Todd Hunter being head of Calendars (very important committee that decides which bills go from committee to the House floor) could be a slight problem because his biggest donors are REALTORS PAC and the owners of David Weekley Homes PAC (TLR) which depends on illegal immigrant labor to sell new homes. So we will have to wait and see on border security legislation. Senate Bill 4 from last session, which allows Texas police to arrest people for illegally crossing the Mexico border is still going through the federal court system even though the Supreme Court has said it will probably agree with Texas. I believe it is in the 5th circuit right now.

Governor Abbott (must sign all legislation for it to become law), Lieutenant Governor and Senate President Patrick (all legislation must go through the Senate), and AG Paxton will all be pushing the whole House to the right as well. We also have the most conservative Texas Supreme Court and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals with the new candidates elected in 2024. The Texas Supreme Court has a brand new conservative Chief Justice and the Court of Criminal Appeals has a brand new conservative grassroots Presiding Judge. The country club establishment RINO Republicans lost 25 RINOs in the last Texas primaries in 2024, and the next primaries are only 13 months away.

How long did it take him to do that? All they're doing is running out the clock just like the democrats (who selected Burrows) want.

It is worth the read. Especially coming from someone who dislikes country club establishment RINO Republicans.

Governor Abbott and Senate President Patrick have already said we will break the all time record for special sessions in history if Burrows and the RINOs keep playing games this session. Multiple new special sessions every week.

This is a complex issue. Country club establishment RINO Republicans in the Texas House are weird (mainly funded by the co-founders and owners of David Weekley Homes and the Realtors PAC) so the long explanation is needed.

I understand. I was simply playing off of BTKAG97 initial post to your OP.

We're halfway through the second month and they have done nothing.

I bet the thread still gets a TLDR before reading my reply.

I think everyone is actually waiting for these 'grassroots conservatives' to pass some Conservative laws here in the State of Texas. It seems like many in the GOP in Texas are all hat, no cattle.

The country club establishment RINOs have been doing this since Joe Straus was Speaker.

When are they going to actually do something though?

Also, can someone verify how fake news or not all of these R committee assignments are? I got another Burrows text today bragging about this, but I had read on here that there are still Democrat sidekicks to every committee chair that have equal power, in effect.

Is that true?

How is this post even that long considering the importance of committee appointments in the lower chamber of the legislature. Outside of special sessions, the Texas Senate and Texas House just meet for 6 months ever two years. The Texas House is controlled by RINO country club establishment Republicans, so it is always important to look at the chairs of the committees and the committee assignments.

Every committee has a dem "vice" chair. Learning last couple of days this.

Nothing has happened in 4 weeks. Nothing will happen this st leg. I am more than PO'd. I will vote for my rep that beat a rino incumbent but not another dime. She's completely blind to what burrows is doing.

Burrows needs to be destroyed, we should not even be having this discussion as he should not be Speaker. Since he is Speaker though I am tired of hearing about the window dressing, get bills passed or face the wrath.

Yes. It was beyond obvious from the beginning that Burrows and Phelan and Brad Buckley, among many others, had/have no intention of passing school choice. They have lied and said they're for it, but they'll do nothing to pass it. Buckley's wife works in public school. He won't do it for that reason alone. They're frauds.

So a month after he was elected speaker he finally got around to naming committee chairs? And we are supposed to celebrate him? What has he accomplished in that month's time when no committees were working?
Ellis Wyatt

Running clock. Burrows has no intention of doing the people's business.

I'm well aware. I am sure shortening the session was part of the deal he made with democrats to get the gavel. It remains to be seen what else he promised the dems to get their votes. I am sure he and Dade's bank is doing a booming business though.
