The Speaker Pro Tempore is a completely ceremonial position. The Speaker Pro Tempore was the same exact Democrat back in 2021 when Republicans passed the most conservative House legislation they have ever done like the heartbeat act, constitutional carry, and election integrity. Burrows gave Republicans majorities on every committee, Burrows gave Republicans supermajorities on many committees, he made the chair of every committee a Republican, and he gave grassroots conservatives that dominated in the 2024 Texas primaries positions inside very powerful committees.
Look at Criminal Jurisprudence which deals with all criminal justice legislation, crime issues, and the penal code. A grassroots conservative majority with chair John Smithee (Trump, Abbott, Paxton, Patrick, Miller, Buckingham, CLEAT, DPSOA, and APOA endorsed). Mitch Little (Texans for conservative majority and grassroots champion), AJ Louderback (Texans for conservative majority and contributions from Patrick with over $500k coming from Texans for conservative majority), Brent Money (Texans for conservative majority, beat RINO Jill Dutton, and $231k from Texans for conservative majority), David Cook (the reform candidate for speaker by grassroots conservatives), and Wes Virdell (Texans for a conservative majority $193k). Chair John Smithee was at the press conference with crime victims yesterday, and is carrying all of Greg Abbott and Senator Huffman's conservative bail reform legislation in the House. The Democrat Houston Mayor has endorsed the conservative new bail reform package. Believe it or not, even obnoxious liberal Democrat Gene Wu voted for this conservative bail reform legislation back in 2021, but sadly the Dem walkout on election integrity killed it.
The subcommittee chair on juvenile justice is also Republican David Cook who was the reform speaker pick by grassroots conservatives.
Look at Homeland Security and Public Safety which does all 2A legislation and legislation regarding law enforcement. Amazing grassroots conservatives like Katrina Pierson (GOA, AFC, Abbott, Patrick, Paxton, Tinderholt, Harrison, Toth, Little, Money, Vivek, Berry, Luther, and Miller endorsed). Rep Pierson was actually Trump's first national spokesperson for his 2016 campaign when he won for the first time. Pierson grew up with a single mother, and in extreme poverty. Janis Holt (Texans for conservative majority). AJ Louderback (Texans for conservative majority and contributions from Patrick with over $500k coming from Texans for conservative majority). Don McLaughlin (texans for conservative majority and the Mayor that cursed out Beto on national TV). Hillary Hickland (Trump, Paxton, and Paxton endorsed). Carrie Isaac (Ted Cruz, GOA, Allen West, Miller, Christian, Tinderholt, and Conservatives for Law Enforcement and Border Security PAC large receiver of contributions). They will join Republicans Mark Dozario and Cole Hefner in the majority.
We will be getting some of the most tough on crime conservative criminal justice laws, and conservative pro-2A legislation in Texas House history.
Republican Todd Hunter being head of Calendars (very important committee that decides which bills go from committee to the House floor) could be a slight problem because his biggest donors are REALTORS PAC and the owners of David Weekley Homes PAC (TLR) which depends on illegal immigrant labor to sell new homes. So we will have to wait and see on border security legislation. Senate Bill 4 from last session, which allows Texas police to arrest people for illegally crossing the Mexico border is still going through the federal court system even though the Supreme Court has said it will probably agree with Texas. I believe it is in the 5th circuit right now.
Governor Abbott (must sign all legislation for it to become law), Lieutenant Governor and Senate President Patrick (all legislation must go through the Senate), and AG Paxton will all be pushing the whole House to the right as well. We also have the most conservative Texas Supreme Court and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals with the new candidates elected in 2024. The Texas Supreme Court has a brand new conservative Chief Justice and the Court of Criminal Appeals has a brand new conservative grassroots Presiding Judge. The country club establishment RINO Republicans lost 25 RINOs in the last Texas primaries in 2024, and the next primaries are only 13 months away.
