This one deserves its own thread. This is another huge one. Tens of millions do this now. If you shut this down then you effectively end their ability to work any job that isn't being paid under the table. They will self deport once they start going after businesses and people for this.

This is absolutely a big deal.
My understanding is it happens a LOT. Folks like you and I have no idea we've had our identity compromised until the IRS comes after you for unpaid taxes with a bunch of W2's you never knew about. While you were holding down a steady 8-5 you were also mowing yards, washing dishes, cleaning hotel rooms and painting houses.

This is a very reasonable thing that should have been in place long ago. It actually happened to my mom once. Someone was using her SS number to work a job. Even though that person was actually paying taxes and SS, it caused my mom to get audited by the IRS because it was not reported on her taxes. That's how she found out what happened.

Pretty clear this has been an issue for a while and none of us really know if someone else is paying into the system for us.

I think it has been thought of as a crime with no victim because it sorta "helps" the person being scammed.

I don't think the lawn men in my area, for example, actually do this. The owner of the company is legal and he just pays everybody else in cash. . .

It used to be amazing to me in a horrific way that the federal government schemed against actual citizens and let non-citizens have a free pass to commit mayhem and break laws.

I truly believe that if the level of waste, abuse, and fraud in the federal agencies was reduced by %50........ we could INREASE Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare payouts and coverage while ALSO significantly reducing the tax burden on businesses and individuals.

The level of waste has to be in the trillions based on what we already know with maybe only 1-2% of the government having been audited by DOGE team.
