We had also better be prepared for an internal ground war when they activate those 5 Million cartel loyalists that walked over. They could be arming themselves now.
First, chop off several zeroes. Even the cartels in Mexico aren't 1/20 of that size.

Also, you can't coordinate that many people without someone knowing about it. If they were organized, they'd already have been caught.

I agree with the majority of the sentiment here as regards Mexican cartels but playing the devils advocate there are two sides to this........what do we do with all the folks here within US borders that are buying and using the cartels products? Nothing? Seems to me something needs to happen on the "user" side as well as the "production" side...?????
The playing field is different now. Fentanyl is a WMD drug. You can't just accept it as cost of doing business like other drugs and look the other way.

When a WMD enters the game, then you have to escalate to MAD. MAD means we tell and show the cartels that if they are going to use a WMD, then we are going to respond in kind.

There is no ignoring this any longer.

I am relieved that I am no longer in uniform. Those drones that both sides are using in Ukraine are terrifying.

The Cartels will do the same. $500 drone with a grenade, a RPG warhead, or 2lbs of C4 can absolutely cause havoc. I suspect that the U.S. is working on anti-drone tech, but is it enough?

Try to fly a drone in restricted airspace recently? Regular commercial drones won't even take off within x distance of an airport or private airstrip.

Trade offs are still trade offs. People are going to die regardless. Just like Covid all we're doing is shifting the timeline and the costs.

Cartels are always faced with a prisoner dilemma. The way you bring them down is to incentivize cheating and destruction from within. More laissez-fare markets are typically a cheap and effective solution to this problem

If I were in office, I would be advocating for a military strike on cartels followed by boots on the ground. Not a single LOYAL Mexican soldier needs die.

Plan a coordinated attack with the Mexican Army on select targets of the cartels. Then, at the last second change the entire plan/invasion and see which generals/leaders are corrupt and take them out in the attack as well.

Pull a 6 day war and let Mexico know we mean business in regards to drugs, immigration, and water for South Texas!

You can't coordinate with the Mexican army. As soon as you do, that intel is already in the cartels hands.

Yes, but do you want to lose some people in the immediate fight to mitigate the flow or do you do nothing and let your population and culture bleed out forever.

That is true. That is why the United States and Mexico coordinated with the Mexican Marines. Much smaller and less corrupt than the institutionalized Mexican Army. Probably different now.

Several years ago when we had some DJI Mavics, we were able to contact DJI and have them drop the geofence for us a number of times so that we could run missions.

So, it appears that China could drop them if they wanted to...maybe for some cartel cash?

Erik Prince on letters of marque;

Quote:

"Letters of marque and reprisal are government-issued commissions that authorize private citizens (privateers) to perform acts that would otherwise be considered piracy, like attacking enemy ships during wartime Privateers are rewarded with a cut of the loot they 'bring home,'" Lee explained in his post.

When asked by Boyle "what the process would be for a Letter of Marque to be issued" and if it would come from the White House or Congress, Prince explained that the "last Letter of Marque" had been issued after Pearl Harbor "to a blimp operator who was authorized to hunt Japanese submarines."

"I believe the last Letter of Marque was actually issued after Pearl Harbor in 1942, and it was actually issued to a blimp operator who was authorized to hunt Japanese submarines off the coast of California. And, I don't know if that was a simple vote of Congress, or if that was a committee procedure, or what. But, that model you could actually do something similar with a presidential finding today, giving an entity a private organization a hunting license. And, then of course, when they were issued to ships, you'd have to post a bond a performance bond of certain rules you're going to follow, effectively rules of engagement for them to proceed," Prince explained.

"So, that could be done in certain areas of Mexico, certain areas of Latin America, to soak up the spoils of the illegal trade and of course the cartels' ability to operate and to terrorize local civilian populations," Prince said.
Make violently gutting the cartels legal and profitable. Someone clever with words could come up with a slogan in there somehow.
Do we get to act like the government and implement asset forfeiture? Because I really want a tiger and a gold AK.

Rip all of the drones out of the sky over the Texas border. Make it a test run for a general war and how you would do it.
If the Cartels are sending drones north of the border, I don't believe that Trump-Hegseth & Company are going to stop at the border chasing the drones south.

Didn't DJI just drop geofencing? They weren't required to have it as I recall and dropped it...supposedly in protest to US actions they don't see as favorable to them.

Not sure. We bailed from all Chinesium UAS because we work with the state and fed governments a lot and they have Blue List requirements (NDAA-compliant).
