While that would be great, I think drones are much more likely.

I view it as kinda how Pablo went down when Reagan got involved providing more tech/resources to track him down.

So it basically just provides more resources and jurisdiction for US military. It's a much bigger deal to declare a leader of a nation a "terrorist", as opposed to cartel bosses that just get replaced with same thing.

So do nothing about it? Why not shut the border down as much as possible and go hard after their operations inside the US. Make it expensive and dangerous for them to operate here.

I know what killing people does, and it dissuades nobody from anything. We've been trying to kill all of them since the 80's.

The only shot you have at beat them and going away is to shrink the market. You do that by getting people off drugs and educating the young. A real effort like this that would produce real change would take 20-40 years.

Therefore you aren't going to get a politician to commit because you can't toot your horn at some numbers before re-election. Then there are going to be the idiots that say "well why aren't we doing anything????" And we start over.
