If it's a statutory requirement the IG themselves may need 30 days notice to Congress. Fine do it and keep moving.

That is my thought as well. If the law states that congress must be notified, then do so.

Re the IGs...Isn't it possible that Congress was notified 30-days ago by the Transition team?

Need substantial reasons to get rid of a presidential appointed person and the president can't get rid of someone in their employ but only congress can? Wow they just made the rules for themselves to have a bullet proof job depending on who controls the Congress and who is the president. Biden roadblock

It's something to do with 30 days notice once the new cabinet member is installed, however Pam Bondi has not been installed so Trumps team is arguing they do not need 30 days notice

THIS is exactly right. The Dems are slow playing and using every trick possible to delay. This is one where their BS tactics are working against them. If they had done what they should have done and confirmed Trump's appointees then Trump would not have this loophole window.

Hopefully the spineless Republicans in the senate will find a backbone.

That's exactly the sorta work that would send shockwaves. When supposed "charities" or noble organizations are actually fronts for the worst crimes on earth…proving that is a story that can't be covered up.

Holy schlitz. That would cause some massive ripples. And well needed. Combined with cutting off their government largesse it would drain all of the funding out of these places.

If the law states that, it is an unconstitutional law. The president is the Executive Branch. Not sure how many times it has to be said.

The legislative branch does not have power over the Executive. They're welcome to sue and lose.

Excellent.

I've also read the above a few places but nothing credible yet. It would make sense to do so given the sum$ and people/entities involved but I am hopeful we win also learn about a purge (and charges) as a result of such an investigation. There's been a mountain of human trafficking in Ukraine as well (often using our funds).

And if any single individual deserves to have a mountain of rico/trafficking/criminal charges filed against him:

This is very interesting that this topic is being looked into.. I think the Ukraine money is probably gone regardless of what happened to it. Also, why would they just now be looking into this? maybe because the prior administration didn't allow it?

The Democrats did not want any of the money sent to Kiev to be capable of being audited. This was even, notably, the position of Rand Paul however.
Quote:

Senate Democrats banded together Wednesday night to oppose the creation of a new office to audit US military assistance for Ukraine as part of a provision in the annual defense spending bill.

Forty-five Democrats including every member of the Senate Armed Services Committee voted down an amendment to establish an Office of the Lead Inspector General for Ukraine Assistance as part of the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Sen. Angus King (I-Maine), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) also joined the Democrats in rejecting the new oversight office.

The Democratic opposition which included several senators in vulnerable seats such as Jacky Rosen of Nevada, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania kept the amendment from clearing the required 60-vote threshold to be part of the bill.

If passed, it would have allotted $10 million from the NDAA's $886 billion budget toward the creation of a 30-person inspector general's office.
Just some (relatively old) language:
Quote:

Congress has approved about $68 billion in aid to Ukraine, according to Mark Cancian, senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
That money is mostly for weapons and military equipment, as well as emergency security and humanitarian aid, and includes $12.3 billion in Ukraine-related aid approved in September.
Cancian said "most of the (U.S.) aid goes through third parties and not directly to the Ukrainian government."
"Much of the humanitarian assistance goes to relief organizations. Purchases of military supplies for Ukraine go to the contractor," he said.
Cancian said it's "not impossible" that money could be illegally diverted. However, he knew of no reports substantiating anything illicit had happened, and he was skeptical of the Instagram post's claim. He said only a fraction of the U.S. aid has been spent so far, and that there are safeguards in place. "There's no evidence that this has, in fact, happened," he said.
Legislation passed by Congress includes language about safeguards for transparency and accountability for cash transferred directly to the Ukrainian government.
A State Department spokesperson said in a statement to PolitiFact that direct budget assistance to the Ukrainian government could not be used in the way that the social media posts suggest.
"The direct budget support that the United States is providing to the Government of Ukraine is transmitted via a World Bank mechanism to Ukraine's Ministry of Finance," the statement said. "There are agreements and monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure that U.S. funds are used for verified GOU expenses; the types of expenses for which U.S. funds can be used are specifically enumerated in those agreements."
A spokesperson for the United States Agency for International Development told PolitiFact that the U.S. has given $8.5 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine's government. That money was subject to World Bank safeguards and third-party monitoring and allowed Ukraine's government to keep operating and respond to critical needs, such as keeping schools open and delivering healthcare.

Trump Places More Than 50 USAID Officials on Leave
By Susan Crabtree - RCP Staff January 28, 2025

The Trump administration has placed more than 50 career civil servants and foreign service officers on administrative leave after receiving information that they may have been conspiring to circumvent Trump's executive orders requiring the halting of federal aid funds to overseas programs and all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the agency.

Jason Gray, acting agency administrator, placed the individuals in question on paid administrative leave so he can conduct an investigation into the matter, according to an agency-wide email Gray sent Monday afternoon and first obtained by RealClearPolitics.

"We've identified several actions within USAID that appear to be designed to circumvent the President's Executive Orders and the mandate from the American people," Gray, wrote. "As a result, we have decided to put a number of USAID employees on administrative leave with full pay and benefits until further notice while we complete our analysis of these actions."

Senior leaders in bureaus across the agency were removed, as well as several senior attorneys, sources told RCP. Several hundred contractors based in Washington and elsewhere also were laid off, according to the Associated Press.

The actions follow Trump's executive order last week that directed a 90-day pause on most U.S. foreign assistance disbursed through the State Department. During his first week in office, Trump also signed an executive order directing all departments and agencies to end all discriminatory preferences, including DEI programs.

USAID coordinates foreign aid, disaster relief, and humanitarian development around the world with the goals of ending poverty and strengthening elections and democratic governance to "advance a free, peaceful and prosperous world," according to its website.

Although USAID is an independent agency with its own leadership, it often operates under directives from the secretary of state. During Trump's first term, agency career officials clashed with presidential appointees on everything from allowing faith-based groups to receive grants to help re-build Christian and Yazidi areas in Iraq devastated by ISIS to efforts to eliminate waste and abuse.

During Trump's first term, USAID officials tried to sabotage many of the administration's initiatives and undermine his appointees.

Agency for International Development was plotting a insurrection
