That's closer to where really went astray. Put another way, the kind of emphasis he is talking about is classic American well back in the days of the more recognized greatness period and `American Century' before educational decline driven by Leftism overall . Its not a symptom of the decline as much as he thinks. That "mainstream" emphasis is in WW II days, and earlier.
