In 2016 the lib talking point was "you wingnuts will wish you had gotten a moderate like Garland on SCOTUS when you see who president Hillary appoints!" Good times

He would have been much more dangerous than China Joe's KBJ choice. She is way too stupid to convince anyone else to join her idiotic opinions.

To avoid being fired by Trump and not have to answer questions when biden pardons him.

The incoming president doesn't fire cabinet secretaries.

Huh?

He can if he chooses to. But the general practice is that cabinet members resign when new president takes offuce.

Nothing unusual about what garland is doing.

You are correct. I should have specified that the incoming president doesn't fire outgoing secretaries.

Added bonus, he's no longer on any federal bench, resigning his seat on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to become AG.

As for Biden, have to go back a ways in modern times to have a POTUS without at least one SCOTUS nomination. Carter was the most recent until now, maybe?

LOL. Forgot her since she is so forgettable. I stand corrected. Haven't had my coffee yet.

Edit - what i meant was usual process is cabinet level appointees resign and are not "fired" by incoming POTUS

Justice is his. I have to remind myself that when scum like Garland continue to walk around free.

Like others, I fully expect him to be pardoned and never be bend accountable (at least not here) for his corruption

And that is what is very gratifying. Trump can un-do most of what he did for 4 years as AG. Thankfully we avoided a much bigger impact if he had been confirmed to a lifetime appointment on the SC. A bit of thanks is appropriate for old "War Turtle" McConnell who refused to vote on Merrick's holdover appointment from Obama. For all the shots he takes for being a RINO -- some of which are warranted -- he was absolute nails in rejecting Garland and getting 3 of Trump's appointees on the court, including the last one (Amy Barrett) who was a last minute opportunity following Ginsburg's passing.

the conservatives are sleeping on what SHOULD be the single greatest priority

having Clarence Thomas announce his retirement from POTUS and be replaced by another 45 year old conservative~!

Beyond that, he engineered the strategy of holding up judicial appointments across the entire federal court system to block as many Obama appointees as possible and reshape the appellate and circuit courts. There's like 900 judicial appointments. Trump appointed about 225 in 4 years, so roughly 1/4 of the entire federal judicial system. For reference, Obama and W both appointed about 320 in 8 years. Clinton appointed 370 in 8 years, and Bush Sr appointed 190 in his 4 year term.

Okay, my example still stands. FBI Director is a political appointee

He claimed that the president NEVER fires political appointees

The POTUS can fire any person of the executive branch other than the VPOTUS.

McConnell deserves much of the grief he gets from the right, but the guy was incredible with the judiciary and deserves a lot of gratitude.
Thank you for posting the overall confirmation numbers. I didn't realize they were that big. If he hadn't been on the case with judges we would be in far worse shape today.

McConnell is not really a `Rino' in the sense of some flake just wanting to go along -- he is an elemental Congressional force. Any opposition from him is from personal dislike or personal agendas has in mind for the Senate --- not to be `accepted.' He has more in common with some of the very powerful heads of the House in the 20th C.
