In 2016 the lib talking point was "you wingnuts will wish you had gotten a moderate like Garland on SCOTUS when you see who president Hillary appoints!" Good times

What is the theory as to why one would resign 3-4 days before the transition officially occurs?
The incoming president doesn't fire cabinet secretaries.
Huh?
He can if he chooses to. But the general practice is that cabinet members resign when new president takes offuce.
Nothing unusual about what garland is doing.
"What is a woman" doesn't count as a Biden SCOTUS appointment?Quote:
As for Biden, have to go back a ways in modern times to have a POTUS without at least one SCOTUS nomination. Carter was the most recent until now, maybe?
LOL. Forgot her since she is so forgettable. I stand corrected. Haven't had my coffee yet.BMX Bandit said:"What is a woman" doesn't count as a Biden SCOTUS appointment?Quote:

Thankfully we avoided a much bigger impact if he had been confirmed to a lifetime appointment on the SC. A bit of thanks is appropriate for old "War Turtle" McConnell who refused to vote on Merrick's holdover appointment from Obama. For all the shots he takes for being a RINO -- some of which are warranted -- he was absolute nails in rejecting Garland and getting 3 of Trump's appointees on the court, including the last one (Amy Barrett) who was a last minute opportunity following Ginsburg's passing.APHIS AG said:

Who appointed James Comey?
Who fired James Comey?
I'll wait

McConnell deserves much of the grief he gets from the right, but the guy was incredible with the judiciary and deserves a lot of gratitude.ABATTBQ11 said:MemphisAg1 said:And that is what is very gratifying. Beyond that, he engineered the strategy of holding up judicial appointments across the entire federal court system to block as many Obama appointees as possible and reshape the appellate and circuit courts. There's like 900 judicial appointments. Trump appointed about 225 in 4 years, so roughly 1/4 of the entire federal judicial system. For reference, Obama and W both appointed about 320 in 8 years. Clinton appointed 370 in 8 years, and Bush Sr appointed 190 in his 4 year term.
McConnell is not really a `Rino' in the sense of some flake just wanting to go along -- he is an elemental Congressional force. Any opposition from him is from personal dislike or personal agendas has in mind for the Senate --- not to be `accepted.' He has more in common with some of the very powerful heads of the House in the 20th C.BarnacleBill said:McConnell deserves much of the grief he gets from the right, but the guy was incredible with the judiciary and deserves a lot of gratitude.ABATTBQ11 said:MemphisAg1 said:And that is what is very gratifying. Thank you for posting the overall confirmation numbers. I didn't realize they were that big. If he hadn't been on the case with judges we would be in far worse shape today.
Noted not to get a Bunn. We're still using a Braun 12 cup coffeemaker that is at least 20 years old. At some point I'm going to have to get a replacement.aggiehawg said:Bunn.akm91 said:
