I am shocked I tell you. Who would have thunk such a rock solid conservative like Burrows would hire a democrat tied to Obama to be the parliamentarian. If only there had been signs ahead of time (like making a deal to get elected speaker that relied on more democrat votes than republican votes).

I am sure folks will be along shortly to tell us how Burrows voted for all of Dade Phelan's watered down versions of legislation in the last session and that makes him a real rock ribbed conservative stalwart.

Or they'll point to their favorite boogeyman - "Most folks raising hell about the rules only know what the Dunn/Wilks/MQS folks who want to control our state put out as talking points." - while ignoring the real threat to Texas Republicans advancing a conservative agenda.

This is the kinda stuff that makes me hate the GOP. They like to play the game of innocence and betrayal by a few RINOs. But they seemingly never have their house in order and the dems openly control the agenda consistently.

LOL.

Since I haven't had the time to look into this person's background myself yet, I'll just wait to see what Empower Texans, or whatever they're calling themselves these days, has to say about it to help inform my opinion.

Yep. They are always saving us from (insert so-called extremists here) by letting the democrats control things instead.

Or you can look at the last 20 years of Texas politics and see that Straus, Bonnen, Phelan, and now Burrows have been quite consistent in preventing conservatives from setting the agenda in a solid red state.

Then again, you're clearly on their side, which is not the people's side.

Ask him why VERY CONSERVATIVE Dustin Burrows gave democrats so much power and got all of their votes. Sounds like Dustin is up to something other than being VERY CONSERVATIVE.

People can say anything. Their actions belie their words. It is time to jettison the leftists from Texas government.

Aggie and my Rep Stan Kitzman voted for Burrows. I called his Bellville office to ask why and for an explanation. Stated this may make me and others not vote for him come reelection. His young kid staffer stated thanks for the call and thanks for the threat. It's no longer a threat we will not vote for him next time! The Austin staffer I spoke to the following day was already prepared with a typical political explanation but was at least more professional. The whole experience turned my stomach.

I would suggest writing his office and mentioning that his staffer called your statement a "threat." That's unprofessional and dismissive of a person who pays that staffer's salary. Their disdain for us is palpable.

Your friend seems to be more a part of the establishment mindset rather than of the conservative mindset if that is their thinking related to Burrows.

Burrows is only a conservative if you shift the overton window from the conservative definition to what the Texas GOP has done the past several decades. They are not the same.

Yeah I've been up Button's staff too and their disdain was palpable. I'm on their radar now though. I just FOIA'd their phone records to see if they were lying to me. I'm also digging through all of their donation records since she was elected in 08 building a dosier and I've reached out to Dallas GOP's selection committee about getting involved with any challengers and a couple of the more conservative reps and people I know to start coordinating. I'll also start my oppo research on her and her family soon too.

If you're interested in learning how to do any of this for a rep in your area reach out. I've been mostly on the side lines of politics with career and family and what not but this speaker's race has incensed me. The ridiculous school choice bill takes it a step further.

Time to get off the side lines and in the game. I'm unfortunately not in a position to run for anything because of my family (wife is DEEPLY opposed to me running for office) but I won't hesitate to do some back ground things any more.

This is a game Phelan, Burrows, and Bonnen have been playing for years. They work with democrat chairs on their key committees to put out some watered down version of a bill addressing a conservative priority, including things dems want, but leaving out key items conservatives want. Guys like Cook and others vote against it in protest, while Burrows, et al vote for it. Then they go back to their district and tell people how they voted for 87% of the conservative legislation and Cook, et al only voted for 65%.

The watered down version then doesn't match the Senate version and it goes into negotiations to resolve the differences and Phelan/Burrows/Bonnen just can't seem to get things resolved and back through a new vote in the house before the end of the session and the bill dies. Burrows et al go home and tell their constituents how hard they tried to get the bill passed and how they were hindered by the RINOs in their own party that only have a 65% voting record. It is the same thing every session.

It is time to stop falling for the same game. Burrows, Phelan, Bonnen, and their little merry band of republicans collaborating with the democrats to stymie republican priorities are Lucy holding the ball for Charlie Brown to kick over and over again. It is time for their constituents to vote them out and find somebody else to hold the ball for us. I plan to donate to and work for the primary opponent of Stan Gerdes in 2026. I am hoping we can get a good challenger to get behind.

Fat Stan doesn't give a flying F about what we think. He did the same thing to us in Waller County when he sold us out to have a giant landfill put in off of Hwy 6 just north of Hempstead. He is the good ol boy conservative that isn't really conservative, but wears a cowboy hat and talks tough and buys off just enough people to get reelected. He needs a serious challenger next primary, not some goofball like they put up against him last time. There has to be some sharp young conservative county commissioner / County judge / Sherriff with deep pockets in Austin, Washington Fayette or Colorado Counties that can unseat his fat ass.

If you want to primary people you must start by finding a good candidate. They need to be able to connect with voters when speaking. They need to have a relatively clear background. They need to be able to articulate what they will do for voters and why the current representative isn't getting things done. Develop a social media presence immediately, file paperwork to run and start talking to precinct and county chairs. Get a volunteer network in place. Research which areas vote and which are strongest/weakest for the incumbent.

Waiting until 2026 is too late if you really want to make a difference. My representative voted for Cook and against the rules...prior rep would have voted for Burrows and the rules but got primaried out by everyone in the area.

This was the problem with lacy hull's primary last go round. This time there'll be a much better candidate to challenge her, if she can break away from sleeping with 1/2 the legislature to even be bothered to campaign.

We were there visiting Reps on the day of the Speaker vote. We walked into Kitzman's office and started talking to his staff. The first one tried to tell us that he hadn't decided who to vote for yet. Other staff were listening politely to us when a lady stepped out into the hallway across the room and starts motioning us over to her. She was persistent, so we wrapped up the conversation with his staff and walked over to the lady and lo and behold there was Stan Kitzman in another room. The two ladies talking to him were from his district and frustrated by his responses. Kitzman insulted them and said that they always worked to help his opponent. We engaged him making the points about the Straus/Bonnen/Phelan/Burrows faction continually obstructing conservative legislation through delay tactics and killing bills in the committees and Calendars. He goes on some rant about the Republican Party holding him and others accountable is pure communism and that somehow justified his position. As we continue our discussion, he starts pointing his finger at my chest and raising his voice. I continued making points and he keeps raising his voice, so his staff steps in and asked me to leave. I told them that Kitzman was the one escalating the situation and I was only answering him calmly.

So, that was my encounter with Stan Kitzman and I agree with your assessment.
