Hmmmmm. I have never seen you do anything but defend everything the moderate members of the House do. From impeaching Paxton so they could avoid legislating to these "questions" about something a blind man can see.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I am just curious how what they have done is defensible. They know best? That was what we were promised when the Burrows/Phelan cronies recommended impeachment for Paxton and convinced other members to vote for it. They knew more and would prove it to the rest of us. Then no evidence emerged because there never was any.

I am tired of being lied to and having our state government hijacked by unethical people who are most likely on the take.

I did no such thing. I asked a very direct and very pertinent question. It was not a gotcha. It was not rude or mean.

The only liars I am seeing are those who support Dustin Burrows. They lied to our faces yesterday and have no intention of doing the work their constituents voted for.

I have no idea what that has to do with the Senate, because we are discussing House business. This is another deflection.

Why is it OK for Burrows and Buckley and Phelan to continue to lie to us? Why did they send the bill over at 4 a.m.?

You are valid to take your anger out about the bill being sent over at 4 AM. That is some BS.

You are also valid to be pissed off that David Cook, the challenger to Burrows to the Speakership, voted FOR the rules.

I reached out to a friend who works as a Republican strategist at the Capital to try to understand why folks are mad like yourself. He stated that even with the vice chairs, the main chairs still have ultimate control and say over what is done/said/acted on. The vice chairs are largely ceremonial. Even with the new subcommittees, they still roll into the main committees that the Republicans chair. He also stated that the 24 Republicans who voted against the rules were mad because they had a slew of amendments that they wanted to be heard and were just shut down. Time is going to tell.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I don't spend nearly as much time on here as I used to. I have a new job and cannot access TA from my work computer.

They told us there would be no Dem committee chairs. Then gave all the committee vice chair positions to democrats and gave them the exact same powers as the committee chairs, effectively making them co-chairs, with the same power to block legislation that the committee chair has). They also setup several sub-committees that could be chaired by democrats and allowed for the speaker to directly refer legislation to those subcommittees instead of having to come to them from the committee they are setup "under". So yes, they honored the letter of the promise of "no dem committee chairs" but in the way they set things up, they actually gave more power to the dems than they had before, which was not the intent of the promise they made. They are telling us one thing, but their actions are doing something completely different.

Well I find it best to focus on how things actually are than what I hope they would be. Paxton/Abbot//Patrick is who we should support until the dream of local control happens.

Why don't you go study how many millions TLR and Phelan have dished out. Do they control those Burrocrat Party members?

At least Wilkes and Dunn donations align with the Texas Republican Party platform and agendas.

Close to 100% of Democrats voted for HR4 because it gave them more power. As I posted earlier it was a letter of the law vs. spirit of the law type of vote that was forced on them because no delays, debate, or amendments were allowed.

Just admit that you want to obstruct conservative legislation instead of trying to pass this off as a conservative victory.

All of this was added to this rules package and was not there in the past. I bolded the language about scheduling in there just for clarity. It doesn't say "with input from" or "advised by". To me, "direct consultation" means the vice-chair can block a bill from being scheduled for hearing. If the chair consults on bringing a bill before the committee and the vice-chair says no, it would appear to violate that "direct consultation" to then bring it up for a hearing.

Beyond that, the rules say the chair has to allow the vice chair to schedule any witnesses they want to testify regarding a bill, they have to schedule matters the vice chair wants considered "promptly". And the vice chair can call for an impact statement to be prepared for any bill they want (which is a great way to slow down the entire calendar as a procedural move by asking for such a statement right before the committee is to consider it). So they can veto consideration, they can call any (and as many) witnesses they want to testify (and thereby delay the committee at their will), and the chair has to schedule the vice-chairs pet bills for consideration "promptly". Sounds like Burrows has given them everything they need to be able to stop the bills they don't like in their tracks and endlessly foul them up in the committees.

If the Democrats had a chance in hell of passing anything, then them. But the Tim Dunn wing wants just as much if not more control. I personally prefer we all have more local control and true freedom than either extreme want to allow.


But the democrats do have a chance, a great change even, of blocking and holding up things in the house.

This is how a lot of legislation has the potential to get killed. Being able to call witnesses and demanding an impact statement on each piece of proposed legislation gives the Democrats ample opportunity to gum up the works and run out the clock. You can be sure they will use every tactic available to fight school choice.

You sure seem to be making this more complicated that it is. Let's dumb it down a bit.

Republicans went into caucus in late 2024 to determine the next speaker under rules Burrows himself help write. When it became clear that in the third vote that Cook was going to carry the caucus, Burrows and his small group of followers walked out on the Republicans and made a deal with Democrats to get the chair. This rules package is the result of what it took to get their vote. And it STINKS!

Burrows' word is now worth @#% to me. All of your superflous ranting about Abbott, Patrick & Paxton is irrelevant to this conversation.

In other words, if you have to stab Republicans in the back to get what you want, you're on the wrong path. PERIOD.

Burrows is a liar, as are the ****bags who agreed to those rules and then walked out. Dade Phelan, Brad Buckley and more. Lying ****bags.

They got away with it this time, but people are starting to pay attention. Some friends of mine are discussing publicity campaigns to make sure voters know that their reps are allowing democrats to control Texas legislation while simultaneously lying and portraying themselves as conservative warriors.
