As of 2020 all new builds (3 stories or less) in California require solar power. I wonder if California will enforce this mandate with all the rebuilding that will happen. Thoughts?

A relative who lives there says the solar has to be hooked up to the grid. Illegal to have panels which supply a freestanding battery/inverter setup for personal use.

The system also must be large enough to meet the home's annual electricity usage, or at least have a battery system ($$$$) to make it capable of doing so.

So they're basically forcing home builders and home owners to subsidize and build out the states solar capacity?

Sickos.

So glad I sold out and moved to Texas 17 months ago.

Probably cost me about $20,000 in moving costs but worth every penny.

The 10% pay cut was offset by no state income tax and a lower sales tax (was 10.25% in my town).

These kinds of nutty laws are going to keep raising the price of housing in California and drive more Californians to places like Texas.

While I don't believe solar to be nearly as effective as some claim, I don't have issues with people trying to utilize it as an alternative. Mandating it is BS. What I don't understand..... why do we try to utilize acreage that could be used for better purposes rather than covering the roofs of shopping malls, strip centers, walmarts, etc....? Utilize land that is already being utilized.

Solar works great in remote or small/mid use applications where running power lines isn't possible or economical. It can also make sense in combination with traditional power if you capture energy from the sun as a supplement to fossil fuel energy (rooftop panels, etc).

Just like electric cars can make sense for people in large metro areas who can recharge at home every night.

Of course, the economics need to make sense on a free market basis without government subsidies.

The problems come when politicians try to mandate these things and assume that if one pound is good, then a ton must be even better.

My bet on those displaced from these fires is that they will take their insurance money and move to another state. They can also sell their lot to Oprah for pennies on the dollar.

Agree.

The libs who lost their homes believe climate change is responsible.

The conservatives know that DEI and insane environmental policies was the root cause.

Neither group will risk building and living there in the future because they believe neither cause will be addressed. The risk is too high.
