Their regulations should be called BLUE tape out there.

I about busted a gut at the very end of his rant:

"We can't have 9 angry lesbians controlling everything that goes on in Malibu, the Palisades, and Santa Monica."

That's not how Marxism works.

The Democrats will continue to vote for that.

The Palisades Democrats will get what they want. All animals are equal. Some are more equal. Palisade Democrats are most equal.

The rules won't apply to them.
A LOT of republicans in that area too believe it or not. Much more than in LA Proper. A ton of people who did not vote for this but could just pay the "weather tax" to live in an amazing place with great views and climate and low crime. Bet none of them ever thought this could happen in a million years, at least not to this extent.

This will be the final straw for many of these victims and Cali will lose many more productive citizens and tax revenue. Cali will become more of s democrat cesspool after this, with the exodus of so many red voters.

These are Surf front communities being burned to the ground. I am not a genius nor wealthy, but I do understand how to look at a map.

What is that HUGE BEAUTIFUL blue area that butts right up to all these water front houses/communities?

Imagine a water pump system used for instances like these, where the Pacific freakin Ocean was able to be used to put out these type fires that seem to happen more often with increased populations. Perhaps a valve that could be used in situations like this where the Pacific Ocean could be pumped into the current pipes so that water would be available to fight the spread of these devastating fires.

We will call it the Common Sense Valve.

Common sense says salting the earth with seawater and pumping untreated saltwater into the same system that handles your drinking water isn't a great idea.

But more than that, the problem is one of flow and pressure, not the availability of water. When all the hydrants are open, there's so much open that the system can't maintain pressure. It's like trying to use one of those toys that squirts water out as you push the handle/plunger in, except instead of a restricted opening that makes the water squirt far because it's under pressure, you've got a sieve and it all just leaks out the end. You could get bigger pumps, but the entire system is still limited in flow rate by pipe size.

This is true, just got off the phone with a friend that move from there. I asked him if the gov would be swooping in to help in record time, after I mentioned the Appalachian hurricane f up. He didn't want to talk politics and honestly didn't know the Appalachia has been ignored. Out of sight, out of mind!

The pipe incident. I had a minor involvement in a similar incident.

Yeah, any underground infrastructure is extremely expensive and the challenge is that unless the placement is in solid rock, it can slowly shift and move over time or the ground level above it change so you never really know.

No, Harris County. Was a pain in the ass to deal with and eventually got back 75% of the cost.

A coworker's prediction that I could absolutely see happening: the political backlash will take the area red enough to get through permitting and rebuild… before going right back to stupid blue.

Watching the drone footage of the damage is overwhelming especially knowing the politicians had more than enough wildfires as examples, more than enough resources to address the issues, and time to reduce the risks. If this isn't enough to finally wake up those brainwashed elites then there truly is no hope.

How long will it take before people realize the government isn't going to let them put houses back on the beach side of the PCH? What normal people see as a disaster, a handful of politicians there see as a golden opportunity.

The first stall for homeowners seeking permits to rebuild (after clearing their lots) will be lengthy repairs to the infrastructure first. And that may very well require the use of eminent domain to expand the right of ways to accommodate a more robust infrastructure than what existed previously.

State authorities would be stupid not to make those changes while they can...oh wait.

It won't be (D)ifficult for everybody to rebuild/recover. Some will have it easier than others.

Don't understand the premise of your question, to begin with, but have you seen the pics of the entire neighborhoods razed near sea level; not to mention those Malibu beachfront mansions.

What will be interesting to see unfold is how the new zoning laws from 2022 that basically make it impossible to build single family homes impacts rebuilding, since most of the structures that burned were single family homes.

I would imagine there is some kind of grandfathering clause that will allow a rebuild of similar square footage for situations like this.

Don't count on it. They live their building regs there
The Party is always exempt from the rules that their lessers live by. It is part of why they love communism. It won't surprise me if Kalifornia makes lots of exceptions for these people. These are their core.
Oh, I fully expect Biden* will send them pallets of cash before he leaves. After all: this isn't Appalachia we're talking about - these are CALIFORNIANS!
With the new congress sworn in, hopefully they can block any attempts of him doing this...at least without tying aid to NC.

Boerne/Austin and everyone in between could very well be next. Lake levels are at record lows. Aquifers are aren't replenishing like they used to. Cedar trees...Drought...Spark...Gone.

A lot of homeowners in the hills are on wells, with 5k or 10k storage tanks. That wont get very far in fighting a fire. That whole area is in the exact same boat as LA. Just look at what happened to Lost Pines 15 yrs ago.

It's going to take a long time to clean up the fire debris. Don't allow any new rebuilds. Just return it to its natural state. Use the swimming pools that survive as mini reservoirs to water the new growth vegetation. Let the liberals populate the area between LA and Las Vegas

That's what any good liberal global warming DEI compliant nutcase would want,

Then I'll just feel sorry for the 40% that didn't vote democrat.

Maybe not. Hard to ballot harvest from burned out neighborhoods. Plus vote by mail? Burned out hulks?

To put it in other words, the conditions in many neighborhoods won't be back to normal by the 2026 midterms, far from it. So the Dems will need to change many of their tactics and pivot. The voter rolls will be affected. You don't just have 180,000+ people scattered to the winds by evacuations across broad swaths without affecting those voter rolls.

The developer that pays off all the politicians will develop that area quickly. Newsome gets paid and developer get special treatment to "rebuild". Land become cheap when government tells them they can't rebuild until infrastructure gets rebuilt which may take years. They sell and then developer build infrastructure quickly. Money grab. Nero did this successfully in Rome a while back.

Pure delusion here.

Based on the tax roll and influence of those areas not only will that not be the case, but the opposite will happen.

They'll pass some special fire fast track program allowing them to not only jump to the front of the line, but also ease the restrictions so they can quickly rebuild.

Conditions are ripe for some large bribes to get permits approved and then avoid being red tagged during construction. City planning officials and building inspectors will have lucrative side gigs even more than they did.

The mayor just said they need to eliminate all red tape for people to rebuild. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
