What is Texas protocol for replacing Congresspeople?

This is obviously on her, but how did no one notice her absence? Although the ethical thing to do for someone/anyone on her staff would have been to start that process back in July, etc. I guess they wanted to stay on the payroll? If so they need to be publicly shamed to halt any further advancement in this field.

Ridiculous.
Was wondering the same. Could the governor deem the seat abandoned after say, 60 or so days (excluding recesses) and call for a special election? Need a state law? Or amend the state constitution?
A member of the U.S. House of Representatives can only be removed from their elected position by a 2/3 vote of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The U.S. Constitution requires an election to replace a vacancy in the U.S. House, as well as the U.S. Senate, although the governor of a state can appoint a temporary replacement to a vacant U.S. Senate seat until an election is held at the next regular election.

So Republicans yet again **** the bed. One of their own has disappeared and hasn't been voting and these dumb m'fers just don't care? Every vote counts.

What an absolutely worthless political party.
Republicans to step on their own wankers constantly. If this party had balls to follow through on conservative principles, we'd have a much safer, secure, and prosperous nation.

I wonder, but pretty much know the answer, whether her staff is still drawing a paycheck?

As expected: "Granger and her staff will remain on taxpayers' payroll until Jan. 3."

There was a story making the rounds awhile back about the volume of Alzheimers meds being delivered to members of Congress and the furious efforts to conceal it.

Perhaps a rare area of political agreement might be age limits on politicians.

Dementia can occur in your 60's which would be well under my thoughts on a suitable age limit. Perhaps an annual physical with a mental status check? But then you run into HIPAA restrictions, so that's likely a no-go.

I would align it to commercial air pilot age limits.

She's been around forever. In a pic with Trent Lott and Tom daschele. Didn't realize she's been in office that long.
Yeah, but what is she going to be remembered for now? And yes, there is a certain irony to that statement. However, the family should have considered that before allowing this to go on for so long.

Sounds like her family may be as selfishly evil as Dr Jill. Hope that's not true.

I remember Feinstien at the end. She was toast. Her staffers were living large and running the joint.

Disgusting behavior by the elites.

Seems like an enterprising journalists might investigate the current financial status of former Feinstien staffers. They're probably loaded with ill gotten gains and high paying gigs thanks to favors they gave during her infirm.

While that's exactly what the opposing team has done with the sitting POTUS, it's inexcusable that anyone could do this. This case is no different. Disgusting

Conflicting stories from staff and family.

From her office. I somehow doubt she wrote this herself.

Quote:

Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas) says she's had "unforeseen health challenges," with her office denying that she's in memory care.

"I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of care and concern over the past several days," Granger said in an emailed statement to The Hill on Sunday.

"As many of my family, friends, and colleagues have known, I have been navigating some unforeseen health challenges over the past year," she added. "However, since early September, my health challenges have progressed, making frequent travel to Washington both difficult and unpredictable."

But then there's this from her son.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/22/politics/kay-granger-congresswoman-dementia-issues/index.html

Quote:

Retiring Texas congresswoman and former House Appropriations Committee Chair Kay Granger has been experiencing "dementia issues" in recent months and is living in an independent living facility, her son Brandon Granger told the Dallas Morning News on Sunday.

"It's been a hard year," he said, according to the Texas publication. Brandon Granger also told the outlet that his mother is living at Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth, Texas, but that she is not in a memory care facility as some media outlets have reported.
Shame on them all for covering this up for so long.
