Holy crap. No votes since July. Basically incapacitated and at a memory care facility. Hasn't been replaced, hasn't had any updates for her constituents. No wonder I couldn't get her office this week. I understand why people want to burn it all down.

The ones opposed to term limits keep making a dubious argument about the voters should be allowed to choose indefinitely.

However, a counter argument can be made that like all systems, the political system should go through forced re-boots at intervals. Users in offices can't just run the same machine non-stop with no updates without it become a risky element.

Term limits or age limits, should be applied. Probably the first would take care of the second.

Well, at least she is in an assisted care facility. Biden should have entered one 3.5 years ago!

I remember Feinstien at the end. She was toast. Her staffers were living large and running the joint.

Disgusting behavior by the elites.

What is Texas protocol for replacing Congresspeople?

This is obviously on her, but how did no one notice her absence? Although the ethical thing to do for someone/anyone on her staff would have been to start that process back in July, etc. I guess they wanted to stay on the payroll? If so they need to be publicly shamed to halt any further advancement in this field.

Ridiculous.

Was wondering the same. Could the governor deem the seat abandoned after say, 60 or so days (excluding recesses) and call for a special election? Need a state law? Or amend the state constitution?

Which is a plus, but where is her staff? What have they done? This is the sort of thing that destroys confidence in governance. It's very frustrating.

A member of the U.S. House of Representatives can only be removed from their elected position by a 2/3 vote of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The U.S. Constitution requires an election to replace a vacancy in the U.S. House, as well as the U.S. Senate, although the governor of a state can appoint a temporary replacement to a vacant U.S. Senate seat until an election is held at the next regular election.

I see a great equal protection argument against that. Depriving state citizens of representation.

I have a prediction regarding Granger's seat. I think Maddie Parker, the Fort Worth mayor who hails from Hico, will win that seat in the next election.

This woman was chair of the house appropriations committee until April of this year. Leadership obviously knew what was going on.

And isn't this some kind of fraud? If this is true, she (and/or her family) were collecting a paycheck for 4 or 5 months for a job that was abandoned.

When a Congressman leaves office - resign, dies, or otherwise - their congressional office just does not close. Both the DC office and a district office stay open under (I think) the authority of the Clerk of the House. The name is taken off the door, but the office still continues to function. I believe the thinking is there still needs to be staff to fulfill some constituent services. I would assume some staff does get cut.

Of course, it seems that Kay Granger's office was packed up and vacated some time before Thanksgiving. I wonder if those people are still getting paid. Probably working from home.

Situations like this are exactly why the ruling class occasionally gets overthrown. Those who are ruled by the 'high and mighty' get tired of putting up with idiots in charge. Anyone who supports bull**** like this is a complete imbecile.

Briefly but it is back to normal. I honestly don't know exactly how far right Parker leans. I don't think she is super conservative but I also think she leans right.

I met Granger about two years ago. It was shortly before the mid terms and it was expected that the Rs would take the House and she would lead the Appropriations Committee. She seemed fine to me at that time. I didn't detect any issues. Must have come on fast.

We should install a memory care facility assisted living facility at the freaking Capitol. We got jokers north of well into their 80s roaming the halls of Congress.
Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi, the late Diane Feinstein now Kay Granger, Larry Nadler etc should be or would have been in Feinsteins case suitable patients

Not sure how you can make a constitutional argument out of that since the bolded part referenced is part of the constitution, as is the equal protection clause/provision(s). Sort of like claiming capital punishment is unconstitutional even though it is IN the constitution.

Constitutional points aside, I'm beyond PISSED about this. It appears no local news reporters were on this and none of the other local reps, including mine, seemed to care. Had this started a month or two ago, that might be one thing, but its been going on for a QUARTER of her damn term. People, including (R)'s in the Texas delegation, have known about this and have done nothing about it. Her constituents, at a minimum, and the public had a right to know, even if it was "she is currently unavailable to serve..."

She's been around forever. In a pic with Trent Lott and Tom daschele. Didn't realize she's been in office that long.
