Exactly. I wonder if they are exploiting loopholes in that long running ownership dispute to undermine the Broccoli stance. Will have to learn more about the details here.

What about the two guys from Diamonds are forever, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd. These two were a little off don't you agree?

They skip off holding hands after killing a guy in one scene.

There was MAJOR backlash to Craig, especially in England. He was seen as too feminine and a stage actor. His introductory press conference, where he rode in on a boat with a big life preserver and long hair, was the butt of many European jokes.

Connery was blonde, so although some people might have complained, anyone who knows Bond knew better.

So they want to change everything about a character but call it the same character for what reason?

At this point the only reason for this is to destroy white masculine role models or heroes... otherwise they'd just come up with their own damn character/storyline.

Neo in the newest matrix film
Luke in the newer star wars (I'm sure Hamill took a lot of convincing)
The female ghost busters (wont watch the newest)
Terminator dark fate
Obi Wan mini series
Spiderman has to be black or a girl in multiple spinoffs

Its basically change the race and gender OR you can turn the white male into a big ***** that is dysfunctional. They then have to be redeemed or be saved by a female and/or black person.

It reminds of how Islam/Muslims have conquered areas in history and make sure to destroy every bit of the previous culture.
That is the liberal modus operandi these days...

There is likely no bigger Bond fan on this board than me. I've read every book, watched every movie and my scholarly research as a professor has touched on the impact of the series to include versions of Bond in other languages such as Arabic. (Look up Adham Sabry if you want to know a true super spy)

That said, Bond has always been a reflection of his times, and likely always will be. He's as much symbolic as he is real. The novels of the 50s were written against the backdrop of the burgeoning Cold War and reflect that clearly through the associations of the villains and the plots that Fleming chose.

The Bonds of the films have now spanned more than 60 years of history and we can clearly see the evolution of the stories and characters over time especially when we superimpose them against the backdrop of history. Craig's Bond didn't spend time referencing communism or the Cold war because it no longer was a culturally relevant topic. Instead he fought terrorists, nano diseases, companies trying to mess with natural resources, i.e. contemporary topics that audiences could relate to. For one good example, consider the Spy Who Loved Me. The film shares nothing besides a name with the book. The film comes out in the middle of Detente with the Soviets, and what do we get in the movie... not only a reference to detente but we see Bond working with the KGB. A short few years later, Reagan is president and we're funding the Mujahideen in their war against the Soviets and we find Bond killing Soviets in Afghanistan.

Any new James Bond will also have to live inside the world of 2024 unless they want to do him as a period piece (which would be awesome).

So while I don't want a gay or lesbian Bond, it's silly to believe that Bond has been anything but evolutionary through his history. As a huge fan I hope that they are able to maintain what makes Bond special even as they consider how to handle this next evolution of the character.

Another life long Bond fan.

I've seen every Bond movie many times... except for the last one.

They effing killed him. The only highlight was the appearance of Ana de Armas. And then they effing killed him.

James Bond does not die. He saves the world, kills the bad guy, makes a smart assed comment about it, then sails away with one of the most beautiful women on the planet... naked.

But they effing killed him.

I guess the next step is to kill his legacy and fanbase as well. That level of masculinity is just too much for mainstream libtards to tolerate.
This times infinity.

The real problem is we just had a ~20 year up-to-date Bond reboot with Daniel Caig. Bond in the 21st Century.

But the Bond universe is in need of a reboot, and I agree there should be differences in this new reboot universe. But what do the simpleminded people do? They immediately jump to the type of superficial changes that are at the front of mind in today's progressive media.....a gay Bond. Or a female Bond. Or how about a gay female Bond? Maybe a non-binary Bond?

But IMO, the answer is simple and right there in your post. Do a retro-Bond. Set this next reboot of Bond in the 1950's. A revisioning of the Connery era Bond movies but not campy, make it serious like the Craig era Bond, and this time really bring out that post WWII Cold War spy atmosphere.

Maybe write a new spy movie script with a female lead? Like, create a whole new story with novel characters and ideas?

Invalid. Their desecration Tolkien's work is far worse than their Wheel of Women nonsense. Both terrible, but the cultural impact of screwing with Tolkien is far worse because his legacy is a mythology of English culture. Screwing with that is screwing with cultural identity.

But yeah - Amazon should be considered cultural insurgents who retcon & devour all that they touch. I assume it's the death of Bond if they have their way with him.

The difference to me is that Rings of Power is an original story set in Tolkien's universe that is loosely based on events mentionedin The Silmarillion. The desecration is still really bad, but it would be a LOT worse if they were trashing an actual Lord of the Rings adaptation.

The Wheel of Time is adapting the actual books. Horribly. Appallingly. Have you read the books? They are INCREDIBLE. The fact that you call it "The Wheel of Women" tells me no. In fact, it epitomizes just how unbelievably terrible the show is vs books. Casual viewers really don't have any grasp on what the story is actually supposed to be because of how badly the storylines and overall mythology has been butchered. It is straight up criminal what they have done to what is in my opinion is the best fantasy epic ever written. I LOVE Lord of the Rings, but I actually love Wheel of Time more. I haven't watched Wheel of Time but I coincidentally just started watching Rings of Power. It's not terrible but I can't get over the extreme diversity of it. It's just absolutely absurd that every race would all have whites, blacks, and Asians.

We have two extremely insular peoples in the hobbits and the Numenoreans yet somehow we have whites, blacks, and Asians across the mix. And then even inside of that you have the white Numrnorean King whose daughter is somehow black. Lol.

There's plenty of blame to go around.

1. Rosamund Pike pushed to pump up her role and make the show more female-centric.

2. Rafe Judkins decided to undercut the entire magic system because he was afraid its male/female differences, which are fundamental to the story, would offend Trans people.

3. Amazon refused Rafe's request for 10 episodes a season with a 2 hour premiere, so the story is now incredibly rushed. They also wrecked the end of the first season with vaccine mandates and COVID shutdowns.

4. The writing staff are complete idiots, and the majority haven't even read the books they are supposed to be adapting.

5. The list goes on and on and on. Woke casting. Excess focus on made up, pointless storylines at the expense of the actual story. Completely emasculating the 3 main male characters that are core to the story.

Just an absolute train wreck and really unfortunate. I was so hyped for a live action adaptation, and it's just a complete letdown.

Life-long 007 fan here.

Want to see me not go to a theater to see a new Bond movie? Make Bond gay or a woman. Surely some will consider this a sexist or homophobic statement, but those people are dead-ass wrong. My rationale here is the character as written by Ian Fleming was neither of those things. If they want to make a spy movie with a gay agent or a woman agent, go right ahead, but that character will not be James Bond. Bond is a man who beds women.

One of the recent 007 movies had Moneypenny as an agent who failed spectacularly, and by the end of the movie was in the familiar secretary chair. Another had a black female (perhaps gay) agent 007 who I believe gave up the 007 when James Bond returned to the service. I had no issue with any of that, but I have little interest in a Moneypenny spin-off or watching the black female (perhaps gay) 007 do her thing.
This is very well put. It also strikes a the heart of what is often wrong with these "switch outs" --- there seems no point. Just make something similar with such a character.

Aiel have had limited screen time so far, but will be featured in the 3rd season (follows book #4). Overall portrayal has been good, except they ruined Aviendha. They cast a black actress for her of course, and they combined her character with Gaul. I have no idea how that will work when she now canonically has to be in 2 completely different places at the same time.

And yeah, it's maddening. Male/female differences are basically the entire point of the story, with a suitably progressive stance of "different but equal". The plot itself fundamentally doesn't work without them. Amazon has just ignored this completely so far in hopes that they can somehow present some sort of plot that makes sense without it.
