Listening to Fox News on Sirius on my drive into work, and they said the strikers were trying to block Amazon vans from entering and leaving the facility.

This is why I hate unions and strikes. If you feel the need to strike to get management to the bargaining table (which my German work ethic does NOT approve of), but if you feel the need to strike, then you lose all moral high ground and credibility when you purposely try to sabotage the work of the employer you are trying to convince to bargain with you.

I ****ing hate strikes, and I hate sabotaging the work even more. If I'm Amazon, the first thing I tell them is there will be NO negotiation at all if you attempt to block our vans or intimidate our employees.

This will be a complete non-event. The IBT is overplaying their hand here. The facilities in question are drops in the bucket for Amazon - but the IBT feels they have to move now - before the new administration comes in.

And to say the IBT 'represents' these workers is a huge overstatement. There has only been one election where a union was voted in - in Staten Island - but that wasn't the IBT. IT was an 'independent' union that imploded with mismanagement and internal strife and was handed to the IBT by Chris Smalls in return for a sweetheart job for him.

Sean O'Brien and the IBT see Amazon as their white whale. It's a pipe dream.

Had an empty package delivered just last night.

Dog barks, See truck in the street, go to door and pick up empty envelope.

The side is open from end to end. Who loads and / or delivers a clearly empty envelope?

All of the above. Final mile at Amazon is handled by non-employees.

Covering this here in Atlanta.

This only affects about seven Amazon facilities nationwide, which means effects will be minimal.

While I can't speak for how it's going up north in more Union territory, nobody even showed up this morning. We were staged out front of the setup in Alpharetta, and it was crickets.

It was so bland that I switched it off after several hours.

Trucks owned by 3rd party, drivers work for them.

This kind of stuff will just push amazon to deliver via drone to a secure drop location near your house, or even at your house. Now now one has a job delivering packages.

Fed Ex is the same way.

Amazon trucks owned by DSPs and Fed Ex is ISPs.

Sorry - the statement was a bit ambiguous. The 'them' you were referring to was the third-party owners of the trucks.

Fire the strikers and don't let them come back. It'll suck now but there won't be another strike.

Not quite that easy. There are protections for non-economic strikes (that's why the signs reference "Unfair Labor Practices) and if recent history is any indicator, the IBT is paying these people to strike. Nevertheless, this is all for show and will have zero impact on the operations of Amazon.

From what I read, the Teamsters do not represent the workers. There is no CBA with the workers. If that is the case, I think their employment should be terminated due to job abandonment. Get rid of the troublemakers and not be on the hook for unemployment since the workers quit.
Aggie Jurist

It's true there are no CBAs. The IBT has demanded recognition under the new rules that require an employer to seek an election (expect those rules to be gone in short order). The only election where a union was selected occurred in Staten Island with a union called ALU - a crowd-sourced union that imploded earlier this year. Still, a ULP strike is a protected activity.
