I got married on my birthday. Best birthday present ever.
Yes, but if it had gone sour, they all would be scuttled. The exceptions don't really change the rule. The cons outweigh any likely negatives positives. Especially proposals.

It was part of her ranting. Saw an excerpt of some post where she was following some Twitter account, radfemhitler or such. It was a lady who was 110% BSC and somehow combined feminism with Nazi views. That person deleted their account with quickness.

Everything about this girl was completely ****ed up.

I have witnessed one of those gradual til sudden things lately.

I don't know how much people realize this but the general behavior of high school students has largely collapsed in the last five years. A lot of it has to do with COVID but not all of it. Ask any teacher and they will tell you the same thing. Kids do things now that even 25 year olds would have never dreamed of just 8-10 years ago when they were in high school.

Problem number one is smartphones and social media. But they are FAR worse today then they were just five years ago and schools and districts are having a really hard time handling it.

This is true about most of the ills and idiocy in our society.

I'll always say that if you got rid of social media (podcasts included) national media you'd get rid of the vast majority of the bad that happens in this country.
Considering the degree the MSM drives the whole shooter hype and 10/15 minutes of fame, that is probably closer to the truth. We don't need to hear constantly about crimes and greivances in distant cities. Dallas police died for an non-sequitur having nothing to do with the city but up in MN in 2016. That's a product of the "nationalization" of the negative. Not saying your idea that social media going away is bad either, but this problem of the press pre-dates 2007 (iphone creation)

I hear you, and i like that we're pretty much in agreement.

Sort of. It starts at home though. If you're talking about from home I would agree with you but it has a lot more to do with how they are acting when they get there. If there is a general lack of discipline at home there is little the school can do about it, especially when it's the vast majority of kids.

Having kids carry a bullet proof backpack? That should not be a solution at all!!! I can't believe that we have even come to that point.

Possible solutions: require better firearm storage, require gun registration (like car registrations), make guns harder to get. This won't end school shootings, but we could at least try to change something!

Again, these solutions may not help, but we haven't even tried!!!!! Many people want common sense gun control laws, and why are they not passed?

1. Your "solutions" have been tried. They have failed. Every.Single.Time.
2. We have more gun control laws than laws on any other right. Another stupidly created law by stupid people that have no clue how firearms even work will do no good. And it will definitely not stop bad people from doing bad things - just like the 10,000 existing firearm laws don't do.

I'm very happy to see you are a former teacher and not a current one.

In 100% of every school shooting (or public shooting for that matter outside of gang related crap), application of return force has stopped the shooting. All of them.

When the shooter meets resistance, the shooters actions go one of three ways - retreat and attempt to escape, surrender or death from the opposing force. Either way the offensive aspect of their shooting has ended. It doesn't matter who is applying that opposing force or resistance either - LEO, civilian, etc. - irrelevant. It is the application of opposing force that universally ends the attack.

Turning schools into prisons is not the answer. That has its own set of long term issues that is a different discussion. Having LEO's on campus is a good step, but it is not the end all because kids quickly figure out their habits and routines and know that 1 or 2 LEO's cannot be on campus everywhere at once. And all too often the LEOs that are on campus are, shall we say, out of their prime athletically.

The solution, outside of fixing the underlying problem with the kids themselves, is to make the place a crazy person wants to do harm a place they decide that doing harm is too much of a risk. Selectively arm administrators and teachers. Many districts have armed teachers, and it is amazing how those districts are not the ones that have shootings and equally amazing* how the administrators and teachers that do carry haven't had their firearms magically jump out of their holsters and go on unabetted shootng sprees or have had kids scheme and plan and ambush said teachers to get their firearms.

*in case you weren't aware, i was being extremely sarcastic here. Unfortunately I feel as if I have to point that out because too many idiots take everything said on a message board as 100% literal because they pretty much fail at life in general.**

Podcasts get linked all the time on TexAgs, and the posters say YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS!

I open the link, and it's boring hosts droning on for two or three hours.

No thanks
Estimates are that 80% of adults regularly listen to podcasts.

Now, do they listen-listen or is it just noise in the background? Impossible to really say on that front. But podcasts are far more mainstream and poplular than any other form of social media.

Thanks for the reply. So selective armed teachers and admins (which is indeed what would choose, as well as guards here and there---perhaps in disguise) in your view has been shown to be working, is the best answer. Certainly no objection to that. (No, have never been on the side of the view of erring so much on avoiding error that want things disarmed. Quite the reverse.)

Yes life is very different now. With the 20th and 21st Centuries we learned that government could be far, far more evil and wicked and self-serving than the Founders ever imagined. The need for an armed citizenry confirmed ten times over. They probably would have built in more accountability and punishment safeguards for corrupt officials and a more coherent process than impeachment had they seen those century's totalitarians.
This...while they did give us the below warning/disclaimer...they could have never predicted the dishonest, wicked and depraved nature of the modern progressive. Or how progressivism would one day basically become a warped and evil religion, where things like deceit, envy, sexual depravity and spite are cornerstone VIRTUES.

Id agree mostly, but our founding fathers weren't as naive to human nature and ideological evils as some suppose. These men were very well read about the Greeks and Romans. They wove an acute understanding of human nature into the constitution. Our country's first independent military actions were taken against very nasty Islamic pirates. These men were familiar with dueling, drinking, killing, treason, spying, deceit, etc.

Like a priest who gains great insight into human nature through the confessional, the Founding Fathers were capable of becoming shrewd through study (not just experience).

I hear you, but if you were to tell them that in a couple of centuries roughly HALF OF THE COUNTRY OF 350 MILLION PEOPLE would support drag queen story hour at elementary schools, gay cartoon p0rn books in elementary school libraries, men using womens' bathrooms/showers/locker rooms and competing against them in sport, and genital mutilation and irreversible hormone therapy for minors...I honestly believe they would be shocked. Even the story of sodom and gomorrah does not highlight such degeneracy and deviancy aimed at children and their innocence.

These guys would have killed anyone trying to put gay smut in their childrens schools...either by hanging, firing squad, or burning alive. Agreed - again, in part. Sodom and Gomorrah involves an attempt at gay gang rape & the offer to sacrifice young daughters to rape as appeasement… which is a significant step beyond gay porn in elementary settings.

Yes, the founding fathers would be shocked at our degeneracy and decadence and sloth. But England is an even worse affiliate at this point! They'd probably have gone back and inserted numerous protections in the form of moral / religious requirements for voting, immigrating, citizenship, and holding office.

I almost didn't respond to this….

But two thoughts.

First, there is very little of what you think goes on actually affecting students. It's like porn in the library. Should it be there? No. Does it affect more than maybe a few kids, of course not. Most kids don't go in the library. Same with teachers. Are there teachers out there that spend all day trying to indoctrinate these kids…. Maybe a few. And they shouldn't be there. But teachers around me, and you, have almost zero one on one interaction with kids and are generally trying to get them to pass STARR or whatever test it is. The idea that there is widespread indoctrination of any kind of students in schools is laughable. At least where we live. I'm sure there was one somewhere that caused a big stir. But it limited at best.

Second, it's funny, or maybe sad, that parents think there is evil porn in libraries, indoctrination commie gay loving teachers around every corner, and whatever fear that has been spread while showing no concern at all with the cell phone and social media they provide them.

Social media has FAR, FAR, FAR more negative influence over these kids today than anything teachers or librarians or whoever could ever dream of. And parents don't think twice about it. Possibly the most ignorant thing I have ever witnessed in my life. But they will ***** about a teacher with a rainbow in the corner of their room.

I know this is rare...but there is no denying that most libs/dems complained when governors like Desantis and Abbott had these gay p0rn books (that depicted oral sex and sodomy in playful cartoon illustrations) removed from elementary and middle school libraries. I don't even have a bunch of psycho devout leftists "friends" on social media...these are educated mid/upper class people who do very well for the most part...and i remember numerous dems on my feed comparing Desantis to Hitler for removing "Gender Queer" from these libraries.

THAT is the troubling part to me...that so many people, all concentrated on one political side, are fine with this deviancy. Along the same lines, FL basically said, you cannot proselytize to children 8 yrs of age and under behind their parents back with the trans/LGBTQ stuff, and this was universally condemned by the left...they labeled it the "don't say gay" bill.

I remember freaking out thinking the world was going to end in elementary school in the late 80's and early 90's...as they were preaching that we were ripping the ozone layer open by using hairspray and that 1 in 4 high school students would have AIDS by the year 2000. If they were hitting us with fear-driven propaganda back then, it's hard for me to believe they have seen the err of their ways and scaled that back. I plan to be heavily involved in my daughter's schooling regardless.

That may be true of Secondary level, but imo probably can't make that defense as well for Ivy campuses. All the completely drummed up and unwarranted support for Gaza and woke somewhat shows the indoctrination.

My Sociology class back in 2000 or 2001 at A&M was pure indoctrination. Chinese female prof with accent refered to white historical figures as "dead white men" lol. I took a "Film" elective and the wacky hippie lookin prof had us watch "Birth of a Nation" pretty much to highlight how irreversibly racist our country is. If I was exposed to that in the early 2000's at a predominantly conservative school (at least in terms of student-body and donors), I can only imagine the absolute filth that Ivy League students and students at coastal public schools on the East and West coasts are constantly exposed to.

I have tremendous respect for the conservative students at these schools who hold their ground or go against the grain. Even if they remain silent due to being heavily outnumbered, I feel for them.
