My concern is not only China. I have specifically seen psychological harm in our children due to tic-toc overuse. I did not see this with snap chat, or FB, or any other social media app to the degree that tik tok has taken over the thoughts of young teens and young parents. They are constantly bombarded with pro-gender fluid and anti-vaccines messages as well as affirming post that they are not normal and have anxiety, autism, etc. It truly is striking especially in the 12-14 year old girls who are not restricted.

I saw a video on a Youtube channel where they took a phone, signed up for TikTok and as a 14 year old girl, and used a stock photo - totally fake profile. Within minutes "she" was being served all sorts of completely inappropriate content. HIGHLY sexualized, as you said gender-affirming, body shaming, all sorts of just horrible stuff.

Tiktok is a weapon designed to hurt our children.

I watched a bunch of videos on RedNote yesterday. Most were your average Chinese person, sharing what their home looked like, what they ate for breakfast, how they go about their day, their hobbies, etc. Funnily enough, just like there is a market for JDM vehicles in the U.S., a lot of people in China have imported classic American cars and modded them for drifting/racing with an Asian flair. Every one of them has been very kind and excited to share their culture with the influx of foreigners on the app.


I don't for a second think the the Chinese government is an ally of the US. But I also don't think your average Chinese person hates the U.S. or is an enemy of the U.S.

I can see that, but it's not the average Chinese worker that's a threat to us, and to think the CCP doesn't have it's fingers in TikTok, like pretty much everything over there, is naive at best. IMHO

As of midnight Jan 19th, every platform hosting Tiktok can be fined per day/per user. That's a crap ton of exposure moneywise. Even if Trump tells them he will not enforce that, SOL is still five years.

Trump can delay it for 90 days once in office if there is an acquisition under consideration. But after that? Unclear to me. Think it is a one and done on the 90 days. Could be wrong on that.

My law school required a certification paper which I wrote on Trump's tiktok ban. First third was irrelevant to today's ruling but you'd think the Supreme Court had a copy of my paper because their opinion mirrors the rest of my paper. The district court for Trump's ban did not agree with my reasoning so I feel pretty vindicated.

Not doubting your claim but I will say this about the vast majority of cybersecurity folks: they always operate in whitelist mode. Everything is excluded by default. If there is even an infinitesimal probability of risk, they will deny if they can get away with it. To the point of completely ******ed policy. So much so that I always view them with extreme cynicism.

I can understand their perspective since their jobs are on the line if there is a breach. But most of them are FOS as far as truly understanding and properly assessing and mitigating risk. It's intellectually easy to just say no.

Depends on who owns it. There is far more free speech on TikTok then on any other platform.

The platform imposed censorship on the people and in order to accommodate the censorship the people adapt new language as a game/joke rather than call out the censorship itself. TikTok is the origin, or at least the popularization, of Zoomers using the term unalive in place of murder and suicide. It made people sound like cold hearted idiots.
