From the New Yorker article. Totally unbiased as per this paragraph...

Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, described the report of Hegseth's drinking as alarming and disqualifying. In a phone interview, Blumenthal, who currently leads the Senate committee that will review Hegseth's nomination, told me, "Much as we might be sympathetic to people with continuing alcohol problems, they shouldn't be at the top of our national-security structure." Blumenthal went on, "It's dangerous. The Secretary of Defense is involved in every issue of national security. He's involved in the use of nuclear weapons. He's the one who approves sending troops into combat. He approves drone strikes that may involve civilian casualties. Literally life-and-death issues are in the hands of the Secretary of Defense, and entrusting these kinds of issues to someone who might be incapacitated for any reason is a risk we cannot take."

I bolded the above to point out the sheer lunany of Blumenthal's argument. This, the same guy that was silent when Lloyd Austin was incapacitated for over a week without telling anyone - INCLUDING THE WHITE HOUSE - that he was having surgery.

The New Yorker article is a hit piece. Nothing more.

Now do Biden, that moron has the keys to the nukes too!

Trump is a convicted felon for paying hush money to a porn star. Is his probation officer going to meet with him in the Oval Office? Does this disqualify him from being President?

No. Actually the jury convicted him because a judge told them that they didn't need any proof that a crime had been committed. Just that he booked it as a legal expense.

I'm fine with getting rid of all the alcohol abusers in government - it needs to be reduced by 75% anyway.

My first thought was a veteran was a drunk?!?!?! Unfortunately that was part of the culture at the time. I know a lot of veterans that were drunks when and after they served that have it under control or sober now. I also know several that are still drunks. Hence the vetting process, question him and those around him to get his drinking habits. I know when the FBI does their background interviews for government jobs they talk to people that are not your friends and will spill the truth.

Stopping alcohol is not difficult if the will is there.

This is not like a mom going with their son on job interviews. She was dragged into this by the democrats and the media for an email she wrote and then took back 2 hours later.

It's like a mom being called to testify as a witness to her son's alibi for a crime he didn't commit. You think she should duck the subpoena in order to avoid the son coming off as a "momma's boy" in court? That's ridiculous.

Hopefully the Rinos will start dying off soon or just switch parties.
If the people you are categorizing as "rinos" (the main criteria of which is in some manner not immediately acquiescing to every whim of Trump) switch parties, the republicans will never win another national election.

Which is what this entire discussion boils down to: the hardcore Trump (PBUH) fanboys will abide no person that will in any way question anything Trump (PBUH) does. Those people are viewed as attempting to foil the will of the Chosen One, even if it is only to question (not outright oppose) Him (His will be done).

None of the six Senators in question have said they are outright not going to vote to confirm Hegseth, just that they had questions prior to doing so.

If a nominee to run the largest federal government department (and the one directly responsible for the defense of the country) can't handle and shouldn't have to face any questions at all about his behavior, maybe there is good reason to question that person, as it is entirely likely that the challenges they will face in the position will be at least as great as answering some questions from Lindsey Graham.

Here are some examples of a RINO in action

- supports amnesty for illegals
- not supporting the likes of Ted Cruz, a very proven conservative
- voting to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson
- voting to convict Trump for telling people to peacefully protest

I don't hate Trump (PBUH). At all. I also don't believe He is infallible, and that He is (and I know this is controversial for some) merely human.

As such, I believe when He does or says something questionable, it is acceptable to question Him.

Note the above is the sole and only reason you have to refer to me as a "rino". So either questioning Trump (PBUH) on anything is sufficient for someone to be a "rino", or it isn't.

2. I defined what a RINO really is, and it's nowhere close to what you call a RINO. Everything I listed in my definition has been done by those on the list.
3. If I labeled you anything, it would be one with TDS. TDS is a sickness that has an effect on folks from all sorts of political leanings. RINO's, leftists, and even conservatives.
4. I have no issues with anyone questioning Trump. But I will call out outlandish attacks and bull**** narratives formed for the sole purpose to spite Trump

Sorry, but what an entirely ridiculous and BS response. The New Yorker article, the "whistleblower report", the "Fox News Drunkeness", and Hegseth's mom's email have all been trotted out by opposition media (leftists with keyboards) to derail Hegseth's nomination before hearings are even held.

NONE of these purveyors of rumor and innuendo have done the legwork to even reach out to people in the know with respect to these allegations that have completely opposite takes and are willing to put their names behind them - unlike the anonymous sourcing of the allegations themselves.

You know that roughly half the Senators are perfectly fine using Hegseth's Mom's email to "justify" their opposition to him, yet she doesn't have the right to reach out to them and set the record straight? So the email has credibility yet her personal recanting of the email does not? Please...

For anyone who cares, Hegseth sat with Megyn Kelly for over an hour yesterday on her podcast and addressed EVERY one of the allegations, one by one. Kelly didn't whitewash or pull punches. She was given no limitations on questions she could ask, so she dove into every allegation.

He by no means denied that he hasn't made mistakes and has been unfaithful. He does say that opposition takes grains of truth and spins them into boulders of innuendo in order to smear him personally. (paraphrased)

It's a good listen. I would encourage anyone who truly has an open mind to download the podcast.

The biggest thing that stood out to me was that Hegseth faced the allegations head on, denied much of the hearsay, but took accountability and was repentant for not being perfect and for making mistakes regarding fidelity to his wives. Accountable and repentant.... An almost unheard of trait by most in DC, especially those who would seek to derail his nomination.
