India and China will never cooperate. Globalism = environmental marxism.

Might be a hot take if you live in KISD, RISD, PISD, FBISD, or RRISD...

America was founded because our forefathers didn't want to live at the whims of unelected monarchs. Subjecting ourselves to the whims of other countries' leaders violates our founding principles and the Constitution.

Globalism implies dependence on external supply chains, external customers, external regulations, and external competition.

In good times, globalism will generally provide a higher overall standard of living. Economic specialization...

But globalism is accompanied wih greatly increased risks due to 1. We are lucky (so far) that risks to our own sovereignty are relatively low; but nothing written in stone that ensures we will never be a second or third rate power for whom the advantages of globalism are not so clear.

Thank God we live in this great country.

Was any further context given? Globalism is not really a super defined term and means different things. I think most academic and modern political writings have it as simply being interconnected with the world in various areas. Economics being a big one with the US stock market being an example.

I'm guessing it's the common parlance version though of a New World Order type of arrangement huh. A unitary planetary government that rules by fiat from a select few?

I would lean on history to make a case. Human individualism is so strong that non homogeneous (not just race either) groupings tend to fail on a macro scale. No large scale empire has passed the test of time without crumbling inward. Roman Empire is obvious example. You have to conquer nations/peoples and rule by diktat to have any hope of having a planetary system and there is just too much hatred and friction for that. It's human nature to rebel and fracture. War and strife always follow. Always.

The Troubles
Sunni vs Shia
The various Islamic states fighting each other more than the west
Napoleon
Third Reich
Alexander the Great
Ghenghis Khan
All of the Crusades
TAMU vs tu
Laynes vs Canes

All just examples of how humanity can't exist with itself at different levels. No way it happens on a planet wide scale in current conditions.

Nobody will protect and defend America like Americans. Freedom takes hard work, but the benefits are incalculable. We were founded on the principles of independence, self-governance, self-responsibility, and rugged individualism. Globalism means giving up control and being subjugated to the devices and schemes of bureaucrats and tyrants, and is antithetical to everything our founders envisioned for this country.

The larger the system, the broader the managerial system will become: consuming individual freedoms and separating people from the consequences of their decisions. The managerial class is highly prone to losing touch with reality.

Globalization dehumanizes us by turning all into economic cogs. It areas of being humans who interact with neighbors and live in community we become atomized specialists.

Vulnerabilities increase as everyone specializes and dependence upon distributed partners grows. Layer in just-in-time logistics and eventually the risk of disruption becomes certainty as any minor geopolitical event can disrupt into major issues.

Here are a few ideas your kid can use to argue why it's bad:

Point 1 - Having to subsidize business in other countries.

Foreign workers can't be held to American levels of productivity and work ethic.

It often times takes 2-3 or more times as many persons in a foreign country to equal the output of one American.

Foreign countries might require making a significant investment in order to do business in their country including hiring extra workers.

Who covers all these extra costs? Sales from the USA is usually the answer.

Point 2 - Risk of Intellectual Property Theft

If you're doing business globally, there is an increased chance that some foreign operator might steal your product and undercut your market share with no ability for you to protect your IP.

From Perplexity AI:

arguments against globalist from the perspective of usa

Arguments against globalism from the U.S. perspective include:

1. **Loss of Sovereignty**: Critics argue that globalism undermines national sovereignty by transferring decision-making power to international organizations, which can limit the U.S.'s ability to act independently[2].

2. **Economic Concerns**: Many Americans believe globalization harms domestic industries and jobs, particularly in manufacturing, as companies move operations overseas for cheaper labor[4][6].

3. **Cultural and Security Issues**: Globalism is seen as a threat to national identity and security, with increased immigration and international cooperation perceived as diluting American culture and compromising safety[8].

4. **Political Backlash**: The rise of populist movements reflects a backlash against globalist policies, which are viewed as prioritizing international interests over American ones[6][8].

Before you jump into the weeds, break it down.

1. Define globalism. Make sure he/she knows what they're arguing for or against.
2. Assuming the argument is globalism bad, look at everything first -- make sure they're aware of what arguments are out there on the issue at hand so they can be prepared for almost anything. Don't ignore articles or other information that say, in this case, globalism is good. They might need to be prepared to refute that.
3. Once they've gathered the information, put it into a framework of sorts: who will be helped by globalism, and who will be hurt? Why is each of those good or bad? Take those arguments and use them for your position. Then, go one step further: who will THINK they're being helped and/or hurt, and why is that good/bad? Again, take those and use them for your position or be prepared to defend against them. (It would take a paper to simplify this so read it multiple times if necessary and just do your best to explain; it is really advanced high school/college level stuff).
4. Use an outline, something like this:

A. Globalism
1. What it is
2. How it is affecting things today in the world
B. Myths of the benefits of Globalism
1. ...
2. ...
C. Dangers of Globalism
1. ... (etc.)
D. Conclusion

Don't get TOO structured and hard to follow.

5. Finally, be prepared for possible questions. Is this a consistent position? Does it contradict other policies the US is using and has supported or has benefitted from? Does it add to the US' GDP (and thus is beneficial)?

Good luck.

Local governments are not perfect. Globalism will take every imperfection and magnify exponentially. Crazy levels of corruption, restrictions to human rights, inadequate healthcare, sadistic overbearing policing...Every bad thing gets intravenous steroids and fed speed.

This is extremely subjective. Lots of rural folks are absolutely ok with living a completely different lifestyle than urban and surburban folks. That quoted "higher standard of living" is almost exclusively related to people living in densely populated areas.

At least that's my opinion.

Another possible downside of globalism is accepting the principles and behaviors of other cultures.

Example from my work earlier this year.

Bay Area company looking to lower costs by hiring people offshore.

India is pretty saturated and honestly, they're starting to price themselves out of the market when you look at cost versus productivity.

So they start looking at other countries.

Egypt comes up on the list of possible lower cost locations. OK.

HR raises an objection due to the fact that the workforce in Egypt is predominately male and an expansion to Egypt will not help us with the Bay Area lefty goal of trying to increase the number of #WomenInSTEM working for our company.

So... due to the perception that only men work in tech in Egypt, any of those girls who wanted a career working for our company will be denied the opportunity due to lefty HR types sitting in the SF Bay Area.

Now fast forward (or rewind) to facts.

At my previous employer, I ran the new hire training and during 7 years, I trained 800 people from 53 different countries. This included two females from Egypt. Yes, #WomenInSTEM from Egypt.

Where it gets even more interesting, one of the girls was a Saudi. She couldn't get an IT job in Saudi Arabia (during the mid-2010s) but she could work in Cairo, no problem.

So I can't hire two girls who I know could do the job because of Bay Area perception of Egypt.

More real world downside of Globalism that is happening to me right this minute.

Software change was made on Monday that broke something critical for a customer.

After a day of troubleshooting, the conclusion was made that the only people who can fix the problem are in "Engineering" and they're 100% India based.

Since it's almost 3:00 am in India right now, we're going to have to wait until tomorrow to fix the problem.

Debating that "Globalism is bad" involves presenting arguments about the potential negative impacts of increased global interconnectedness. Here are some common points you might use in such a debate:

Economic Concerns
1. Job Displacement: Globalism often leads to outsourcing, causing job losses in developed countries as companies relocate to nations with cheaper labor costs.
2. Widening Inequality: Critics argue that globalism disproportionately benefits multinational corporations and wealthy elites, while leaving behind small businesses and lower-income populations.
3. Dependence on Foreign Economies: Over-reliance on global supply chains can make nations vulnerable to economic disruptions in other countries, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cultural Erosion
4. Loss of Local Identity: Globalism may lead to homogenization of cultures, eroding unique traditions, languages, and customs.
5. Dominance of Western Values: Critics argue that globalism spreads predominantly Western ideologies and consumerism, often at the expense of local cultural values.

Political Sovereignty
6. Erosion of National Autonomy: International agreements and institutions like the WTO or IMF can override national policies, reducing a country's control over its own affairs.
7. Undemocratic Global Governance: Decisions made by global organizations are often perceived as undemocratic and removed from the concerns of ordinary citizens.

Environmental Impact
8. Global Supply Chain Emissions: The transportation of goods across the globe significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.
9. Resource Exploitation: Globalism can encourage unsustainable exploitation of natural resources in developing countries to meet the demands of richer nations.

Security Risks
10. Spread of Diseases: Increased travel and trade can lead to faster global transmission of diseases.
11. Economic Contagion: Financial crises in one country can quickly ripple across the globe, destabilizing other economies.

Ethical Issues
12. Exploitation of Labor: Globalism may perpetuate exploitative labor practices, including child labor and unsafe working conditions in developing countries.
13. Corporate Influence: Multinational corporations often have outsized influence on global policies, sometimes at the expense of ethical considerations.

Community Impact
14. Undermining Local Economies: Small and local businesses struggle to compete with global corporations, leading to economic decline in local communities.
15. Social Fragmentation: The push for globalized ideals can alienate individuals who feel their local or national identity is under threat.
When using these arguments, consider supporting them with specific examples, such as case studies on economic effects, environmental crises, or cultural shifts tied to globalization. Tailor your points to address the context of the debate and audience.
