I'm relieved. I think it was unlikely to work out well even if he'd been able to get confirmed.

It was a horrible nomination by Trump. I love most of his picks but not this one. Everyone hates this guy. Trump needs a bulldog AG like Obama had in Holder, but appointing someone that even your own party hates is not a smart move.

On an unrelated note, I am holding out hope that Trump nominates Cruz to the SCOTUS when Clarence Thonas retires. That would cause the most epic meltdown by the Dems.

Good grief. Everyone hates Trump too!. What you posted was posted about Trump during both of his runs for the Presidency. Trump is not morally righteous. Did you forget he slept with a porn star and paid her off?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Trump could not have gotten confirmed for AG either. Maybe that should tell you something, but I got a strong feeling it won't.

why do so many Trump fans believe there is ONLY ONE qualified person in a country of 330 million -

it's frankly a form of leftism to believe in the "indispensable man"

there are LITERALLY 100 MAGA attorneys who can serve as the AG.

He had how many US Attorney nominations last time who made it through vetting and confirmation without any big disloyalty issues. Some probably more loyal than others. Wouldn't be awful to start with that list instead of looking for splash headlines and social media reactions with every pick.

Anybody who thinks Gaetz was most qualified pick for the role is lying to themselves.

He was picked as an "FU" to the DOJ by Trump. Not because he was the most qualified.

Sure he clears the low bar of is/was a lawyer, but nobody looks at him as somebody noteworthy for this type of role. There's nothing to indicate he really could have done that role well beyond just blowing up the DOJ.

So whine and moan, but he won't be difficult to replace.

Nah, the walls are just closing in on a guy with too many skeletons in the closet.

It's incredibly obvious at this point there's some really damning stuff that was going to come to light if he remained in public life.

Completely baseless accusation. Nice.

There are financial records and emails documenting his use of prostitutes.

Now sure, the underage boy/girl stuff may very well be false. But we're at the point where that's a question for the legal side of things. He's clearly not a viable candidate for AG of the United States regardless.

Your DOJ investigated and cleared him. Just stop with your bull**** accusations.

They didn't clear him, they declined to prosecute but withheld all the evidence. It's pretty obvious what happened there.

My dislike of Gaetz has NOTHING to do with the accusation he slept with a 17 year old girl. I would not be surprised that it is a setup and political dirty trick. Terrible assumption you are making that I care about that issue, and flat wrong.

The problem with Gaetz is his attitude and predisposition toward going nuclear when he does not get his way. He is not just hated by the swamp, he is hated by true conservatives. When Ted Cruz (who i have enormous respect for) says that Gaetz is a terrible choice then even those of us who are extremely conservative should reconsider supporting this nominee.
We may not always get what we want. We may not always get what we need. Just so we don't get what we deserve.

Which is a pretty crappy goal.

i want somebody who will clean the filth that's been growing in the DOJ. I want someone who will actually enforces the laws on the books.

If he happens to piss people off, even better, but to have that as a primary goal is silly worthless.

I think it's pretty clear their investigation uncovered some pretty unsavory things but came up short on the underage/minor claims and they didn't want a perceived political witch hunt going down over something as "trivial" as prostitution. Especially with how many congressmen have probably utilized those services. But had they released the findings as they usually do but refused to prosecute, the other side would have been outraged. So they split the baby.

It's beyond reasonable dispute at this point that he has paid prostitutes for sex. We have his messages and Venmo receipts and multiple witnesses. So that would be what I'm accusing him of. I'm sure a lot of congressmen have done the same. But the AG of the United States can't be someone whom it's understood by everyone pays prostitutes for sex.
