I have never donated to A&M. In 26 years since I graduated. They make enough money. I need more of my money than they do. Why should I donate so they send it to Jimbo Fisher and Sumlin?

You could ear tag your money to go to a specific education department

That is worthless. You tag your donation to go to engineering, and any equal amount gets moved from engineering to trans-women gender studies.
Do you actually have proof of this happening?

I know that is how the state government works when it comes to education funding, just not sure how that works in college funding. I'm assuming people who do directed giving to specific colleges receive plenty of feedback from those colleges, including information about budgets. So if the budget is the same year after year despite their giving (something I think everyone would notice), they're going to ask questions.

Or do you think these colleges are lying about their budgets and redirecting money to trans-women gender studies, i.e. fraud?

No, I do not have proof. No, I do think universities are lying about budgets. However, money is fungible and if the university wants to fund a woke course, they can simply allocate non-directed funds to those programs. Unless all funding comes from sources that direct its use, then there will be discretionary funds that can be diverted.

That course isn't "required" to satisfy the cultural discourse requirement, it is simply one students can choose to take from a wide range of courses. That set includes: HIST 225 (Revolutionary America), ARTS 349 (History of Modern Art), ENGL 350 (Twentieth-Century Literature to World War II), RELS 202 (Religion in America), RELS 367 (Christianity and American Identity), NURS 421 (Care of Community Health Clients), and a whole host of others.

No one is forcing students to take this subset of courses over others on the list. Why all the outrage that students are being asked to select one course, from a large set of possible options, that are collectively aimed at helping "students engage in difficult conversations related to topics such as gender, race, religion and politics?" Are we expecting a college degree to only be a trade certification, or represent a generally well-rounded education?

Totally understand.

I mean how can you survive in today's society without being able to be fluent in adolescent masculinity and the *** discourse. Oh and let's not forget the importance of "What Taylor Swift's Iconic Status says About Who Gets to be a 'Girl' "

What is General Welsh doing? This should have been stopped a year ago.
He probably supports it.

Against 4 classes that support DEI. lol

But willing to pay 4 million dollars in NIL deals plus scholarship to get an athlete..... ..who may want to take an African Amercian studies course.

DEI stances should be publicized in the Admin office for incoming recruits and parents to see

I was critical of Welsh when he came on board. Study his background.

No recruits will give a f

They're pro players now, they want to be paid as much as possible, they don't care about the politics of the money they receive.

There might be 30-40 students learning about the gays!

TBF, this isn't new. One of my SAs in Lechner, more than 20 years ago, took a gay and lesbian literature class. She was a liberal hippie. And from Austin.

Because some people on F16 have an unhealthy obsession with the gays and being outraged is a recreational sport to them. They also like using this sort of thing as an excuse to not donate money to the university that they weren't going to donate anyway.

That being said, the University's silence on these issues and refusal to express a commitment to the success of all members of the (extremely diverse) student body and support the faculty and staff who make student success possible has cost the university six figures in actual committed donations this month alone.

That determination really depends upon a narrow understanding of what counts as "useful."

Focusing on a limited subset of the courses on that list, assuming the peculiarities of one or two of these niche course interests reflects the tone for the whole set of courses on the list, and generalizing from that that the set of courses as a whole fails to meet some undefined understanding of "usefulness" is what is being called into question.

Identifying different ways of looking at issues, considering the value and merits of alternative explanations, and weighing and measuring those against each other is the sort of thinking that is cultivated by a classical liberal arts education, and why A&M has had a core curriculum for decades that has required even those in engineering and the hard sciences to take some courses in liberal arts, eg history, literature, and culture, long before all this woke/antiwoke brouhaha.
