The overwhelming majority of people are not very smart (I'm trying to be nice). All you have to do to validate this is go to Costco on the weekend. That being said, it is 100% getting worse. People no longer use critical thinking skills which I think has resulted in atrophy of the brain.

Yes, people are this dumb. I have an old liberal friend and her liberal friends arguing on Facebook about how Trump and Musk are anti-first amendment (among other things) and trying to limit free speech to those they disagree with or don't like.
