The onion used to be hilarious, but Babylon Bee has taken their place for many years now. Just much better.

But we'll see what happens with this. I don't follow or listen to Alex Jones, so I couldn't care less, but this could be interesting.

I could give a rat's patootie about Jones but I was reminded of the late John Connally and when his company, Barnes &Connally went down, pulling him and Nellie into a bankruptcy liquidation sale. Their friends all bouth their belongs and furniture and gave them back to them.

Early 90s in Austin. I had an accounting friend who worked for Barnes & Connally. His last week he was just answering the phone with, "Barnes & Connally, the check is in the mail!" But the personal bankruptcy and liquidation of their assets was few years later.

So they have a billion dollar judgement against a guy who doesnt have a billion dollars, but presumably gives them a claim on his future income, so they get a bond, buy his business, and shut him down? Now I get that they dont care about the money, they'll never get it, and they just wanted to silence and shut him down to punish him and this achieves that.

Who in their right ****ing mind would give them a bond for them to use to destroy the value that could ever be collected in the judgement thus making it worthless? Are they defrauding someone or is someone just willing to light money on fire?

I think the judge overruled the sale, because it was not approved by him, and the auction was not done properly. They didn't sell to the highest bidder, and refused to release to the judge the details of the auction.

That's a trustee issue, no? Been years since I practiced bankruptcy law so I'm rusty on the details but doesn't the trustee oversee the sale?

Thats what it sounds like. Trustee setting up improper "auction." Trustee improperly awarding sale and seizing his studio / broadcast. Judge calling a false start and replay of down. …but in the interim Jones and his business have been / will be deprived of a business asset outside of the legal process, which seems like something a true justice system would label as unlawful damages…

Just one more ugly wrinkle of corruption in the prosecution and execution of this anti-Jones endeavor.

Certain assets in the bankruptcy estate were put up for auction.

The onion was the winning bidder.

The backup bidder has raised irregularities and improper procedures

The judge is reviewing the objections raise and auction.

A couple questions for you:
A) how many times did Jones assert it was a hoax on his show?
B) what $ of earnings can be directly attributed his assertion that it was a hoax?
C) what was the duration between his assertions and recanting?
D) what proof do you have that he knew he lied when he asserted it was a hoax?

He may have said some despicable things - but if he were as bad as you say then you wouldn't have to use hyperbole, exaggeration, and lies to pain him in a bad light.

Because I represented builders and developers, I ran in some heady social circles back then. Lunch at Headliners (as a guest) a few times a month, mainly to discuss deals and proposals. I got into the Austin real estate scene after B&C had gone under in the late 80s but was there for the personal bankruptcies.

Also went on property scoping car trips with Nash Phillips, formerly of NPC a huge homebuilder back in the day. He was an entertaining old guy, with his "war stories" about developer wars in the 70s in Austin.

Then people like Gary Bradley, developer at Circle C. They all flew pretty damn high until they all crashed and burned.

But Barnes & Connally were also well-known and connected politicians who could open (or close) doors for aspiring politicians within the Dem Party. So they remained relevant and people had reasons to curry favor with them. Hence the purchasing of their personal possessions and then returning them. Quitea cliquey bunch.

Of course, few of them knew I was a Republican. I was just the lady lawyer who worked the deals.

As part of the bankruptcy, Jones' personal assets and Infowars' parent company, the Jones-owned Free Speech Systems, were to be sold at auction, with the Sandy Hook families and Jones' other creditors getting the proceeds.

How The Onion was named the winning bidder
The bankruptcy trustee overseeing the sale chose from sealed bids. He received two.

One was from the Jones-affiliated First United American Companies, which offered $3.5 million, the trustee revealed in court Thursday. The other, from The Onion, was lower but contained an incentive by some of the Sandy Hook families to forgo a portion of the sale proceeds and give it to other Jones' creditors, the trustee, Christopher Murray, said.

Murray said he determined The Onion's offer, although unusual, was better overall, because it would provide more money to Jones' creditors than the other bid. But he also said he could not yet put a dollar figure on The Onion's bid when the families' offer was factored in.

Judge Lopez indicated that he had expected prospective buyers would be given a chance to outbid each other after the bids were unsealed.

His 20-page order on the sale procedures in September, however, made such a bidding round optional. And it gave broad authority to Murray to conduct the sale, including the power to reject any bid, no matter how high, that was "contrary to the best interests" of Jones, his company and their creditors.

Good explanation from the AP.

From AP it looks like parents were going to let some of their Share of the recovery go to other creditors which means more people get paid.

If they open this back up (which it doesn't look like they will after the hearing next week), but if they restart bidding process then I have to believe there will be more bids the second time. At $3.5 million that seems like a steal of a price.

You can look up all of these things. Kudos for goal tending for Alex Jones, though. The dischord between conservatives who care about ethics, morality and who we nominate and associate ourselves with and those who either don't or rationalize this behavior as long as the "libs get owned" will come to a head at some point.

Of course anyone is welcome to their opinion of AJ. I just haven't met one conservative Christian in my orbit who holds a modicum of respect for the man, nor do they feel sorry for his financial troubles.

Judge screwed up then because he was not clear in his order and trustee has broad authority to begin with. If the judge wanted to constrain that discretion, needed to be specific.

Thanks for posting that.

I don't follow Aj at all and am not a fan, Despise the style, voice, tooooooo much drama. everything is a scam, and it is urgent. Yet is he is the forerunner of alt media and social media whether we like it or not.

I have known him as the king conspiracy theorist, first I heard of him was 9/11. Thought he was a total whack job.

That particular opinion, that he is a whack job, has changed. He is not. I have done a bit of study on him.

He was the one who broke the story of the meeting of elites during some really bazaar occult like stuff at Bohemium Grove, CA back before 2001 Ca. AND THERE IS ABSOUTELY NO CONSPIRCACY ABOUT THAT.

He has been right a lot.

Once you understand that this is his back ground, it is easy to understand where he stands.
