Who is the candidate most likely to retain the seat once the appointment term is up?
Byron Donalds is probably most likely to be Rubio's replacement or he will be DeSantis's replacement in 2026

I thought f16 said political dynasties were a bad thing.
I thought Trump had no chance to win and would never take the popular vote.
What does that have to do with political dynasties?

Trump threaded the needle and he deserves props but probably the single biggest thing that changed the trajectory of the election to me was the assassination attempt. It completely unified the GOP behind him and it also got Musk to go from flirting with being supportive of him to being a rabid MAGA supporter who went all in behind him. It also got a lot of folks in the middle and even the Left to jump on the Trump train and RFK suspended his campaign and went all in for Trump a month later. He doesn't turn his head and God knows where we are right now. That attempt doesn't happen and the entire race is also fundamentally different.

Just having some fun with concerned moderates who are super concerned.

Does she officially reside in Florida? Or does that matter anymore.
She does. I think she's been a long time resident. Not sure how Bondi would be an advantage long term.

I'm not a fan of rookies going to the Senate. They should be the august body of Congress comprised of experienced statesmen.

Surely this is sarcasm. I mean, it's supposed to be the most insulated/aristocratic body of course by design, but have you looked at the US Senate lately?

A lot of people in their August years, sure (only around 9 under 50). Smart, actually quick thinking senators would be a pleasant change vs. the mean.

To mix it up a bit, I might suggest that Governor DeSantis appoint Representative Daniel Webster. Experienced politician. Pretty solidly red district.

But the kicker is that he's currently 75.

He can be a reliable placeholder for two years, leaving open the opportunity for a real primary in 2026 which could include several prominent names already mentioned, and possibly even DeSantis himself.

I'll say it again. There is still work to be done. There are two states that are gettable in the midterms to boost House and possibly Senate numbers. Presler is headed to NJ. Need additional efforts in NY. Elise and Zeldin did well but now they will be otherwise engaged, too.

Lara needs to focus on those efforts.

Spoiler alert; you're not gonna like whoever the appointment is, and will feign shocked disaffection no matter what.

My thought is Trump selected Rubio in a negotiated plan with DeSantis as to who gets this one. Not announcing it yet is just part of the show this week.

Name another Republican nominee and I'll probably be fine with it. You are compromising your principles on nepotism in politics. I'm not.

Yep. Florida is the model that we should be trying to replicate around the country and yet Scott was not part of what made that happen and Lara Trump also wasn't involved in making that happen.

BTW, for anyone pushing for this can you tell me any of Lara's positions on anything? Women in the Trump family have a tendency to have a lot of liberal views like Melania and Ivanka. Or does that not matter?

Moves like this are how you jump the shark.

Lara? Scott Presler is keeping his eye on the ball. Help him.

Completely agree with Mrs. Hawg here - need to put our best resources to fighting the PA hijinks.

Lara and the RNC team need to be all over that.

And keep the Senate and the House in 2026 to extend Trump's runway to fix things. Two years will not be enough. Why it was so important to extend Reagan into a second term in 1984. Bak then we could trust the American people to see Reagan was working and things were getting better after some economic pain and voted accordingly.

We can no longer trust in the collective wisdom of nearly half of the electorate since we no longer have objective facts in common.

I support this happening. She did great in the campaign role/at the RNC, and would have excellent contact/relationships/influence as a rookie senator.
