Keep in mind the Florida curriculum standards on teaching this topic match the College Board. The whole thing was a huge hoax by Kamala.

She went to Florida to attack Desantis.

The whole Democrat media lied about it.

Florida is number 1 in Education: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/education

Rubio is a great pick.

If you look as his record and vocal outcry about authoritarianism and Chinese' support of Maduro in Venezuela, Commies in Cuba, Nicaragua and potentially Mexico with their new President…..this pick couldn't be better.

I know a lot of Trump supporters underwear is in a wad because he actually took on Trump in 2016…..but get over it. Trump has been supporting Rubio since 2016

Imagine being so lost down your own rabbit hole that MARCO RUBIO isn't far enough to the right to be acceptable.

There's nothing wrong with this pick and some of you seriously need to recalibrate.

Maybe this opens up the opportunity for Desantis to appoint a more MAGA senator? Gets Rubio out of the Senate and under Trump's direct control. OTOH, it removes Rubio from head of the Intelligence Committee and depending on who the majority leader is in the senate, that could be someone less friendly to Trump than Rubio.

Thanks for the link. I read it.

Seems a little overblown, and kind of cynical for Desantis to play the "you're with Kamala or you're with Florida" game. Reading what Donalds said doesn't disqualify. I'm also pretty sure that all those guys who spoke out were supporting Trump and trying to score points against Desantis.

You have to understand that this forum is extremely knowledgable about political history compared to the regular public.

99% percent of Americans probably don't even know what the Gang of Eight is.

Marco Rubio called Steve Deace after the 2012 election, and told Deace that Republicans will never win another election unless they give amnesty to every illegal immigrant.

Republicans just won the presidency, senate, and house by running on the exact opposite of what Rubio said after the 2012 election.

However, I like Rubio because that speech he gave on the floor of the Senate in 2022 against Biden and Kamala's Green New Deal was so great.

Rubio said "we are in the middle of the largest crime wave in 30 years, and this money should be going towards local law enforcement."

He also talked about the border/illegal immigration and inflation/high prices.

Rubio wasn't thwarting Trump. He was an asset to Trump (and Americans) on the intelligence committee. Plus he worked with Trump's daughter on domestic issues.

The United Staes needs Rubio especially now since Latin America is getting thrashed by China/Russia

And Vance called Trump hitler in 2016. Now everyone loves Vance.

People say things.

People change.

I'm not saying I support or don't support this pick, but something he said 12 years ago…I mean, come on.

Seriously, who is questioning the MAN AT THE TOP? Does anyone in their right mind not think that Trump doesn't know what he's doing this time around. Sit back and let the man that almost the entire population of the USA voted into office do his due diligence. HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING!

Trump's former ambassador to Germany and fans of Red Eye will recognize him from his numerous past appearances.

He was also the first openly gay person to hold an international ambassador role. Not that I care about that, but oddly the left didn't seem to celebrate it either because he's on the wrong team.

You have to understand that Rubio does not fit in either category.

His politics have completely changed since the Gang of Eight days.

The last 2 years, Rubio has sounded much closer to a constitutional conservative like Desantis or Mike Lee than a neocon like Mitch.

Thanks for the reply, I did a search for Ginnell and Grinnell Republican and came up blank.
Richard Grenell Is one of President Trump's most trusted advisors and should be considered.

Also was Director to National Intelligence so he knows things.

I generally like Rubio but this type of attitude is so unhealthy. You should never say this about any politician, no matter how much you support them.

This is exactly something those clowns on MSNBC would say that everyone on this board justifiably laugh/cries at all day.

Ugh.
I'm guilty of the unworkable fantasy of wanting to fill an entire government with Ron Pauls and Alitos, but of the three branches, I only really want my hardcore conservatarian purists in the Leg and on the Bench.

In a healthy American-style constitutional republic, the ideological purity of the Executive doesn't matter as much, because they ought to be heavily hamstrung by statutes and judicial guidance. The whole point of the Executive branch is just to execute Congress's agenda. So if you're hiring for an Executive position, the desired qualifications aren't ideology, but personality characteristics like problem-solving, project-management, communication, and inspiration. And before the deep state became so irrevocably metastasized, the Executive branch was gonna turn over pretty regularly with elections, so their ideology has fewer lasting effects. Contrast that with the Leg where once a law is passed or a new power is created it pretty much never goes away. For example, the Dems won on health care. We are permanently stuck with Obamacare until we eventually slide all the way into single-payer, because that's how entitlement/poison-pill legislation works.

There definitely are areas where Rubio the legislator has dropped the ball on ideology, but that doesn't mean he'd be a bad administrator.

Similarly, I'd feel happier with John Cornyn in a Secretary position than in the Senate where he can defect on a single point of law, or a confirmation hearing, in a way that can never be undone.

It is surprising to see that Mitch has fans considering he has the lowest approval rating of any US Senator.

However, I will admit the one time in Mitch's whole career he decided to stand up and fight for something it ended up with a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court. The maneuvering he did in 2016, will have a generational impact on this country now that Trump can replace Thomas and Alito with younger justices.

About Rubio? He was never my favorite or cup of tea but I also never put him in the Romney/McCain type of camp.

I mean, he's been a lot closer to that camp than the Trump camp.
Cabinet is a completely different job with completely different qualifications/needs than legislation. You want to keep your true-believers in the Legislature to gatekeep our statutes/codes, and in the judiciary where they gatekeep the coherence and integrity of the entire Body Of Law. You can have more mercurial and pragmatic gitrdun folks in the Executive branch, because they need to be flexible to respond to shifting real world conditions to arrive at the outcomes assigned to them by the Legislature. If the Lege writes good law, your Execs won't be able to run amok because they'll run into clear power limitations.

That was supposed to be how the USA worked. But we've thoroughly fracked that up and both parties are progressively ratcheting up the power of the Deep State and the Imperial Presidency when they have control, in order to get back at their opponents and secure their future election chances. It's just circular firing squad of backlashing to backlashing, until one day the government will be large enough to lash us all without stopping.

Exactly why approval ratings are a poor input of judging political careers. Mitch was the single most effective stalwart against leftism of the last 2 decades.

And as you say, it culminated in sealing SCOTUS for a generation.

I agree with this. I've never despised Rubio or anything but he's a middle tier senator. He's not pure neocon these days.

And I agree with the sentiment above, we only have so many Mike Lees, Massies, Cruz, or Pauls. Those guys are all 90s. Rubio is a 65. Scott is about a 65 too. Cornyn is a 45. Romney/Cheney are 15s.

While I'd love a government filled with Ron Paul, Dave Smith, Michael Malice, Tulsi, and Scott Hortons, it's not realistic.
